Don't sell the Dargie, they're not comming back! I'd either ditch the BFR AL (they're still in production) or simply rout it for 'buckers.
I routed my Strat to fit a bridge humbucker - it's SO easy... as long as you have a pickguard covering the routing, there's absolutely no reason to fear such an undertaking. In short: ANY tech could do it!

Cheers

Mike,

Quit bleating!!

Ok, so here's the other option....

They're not even going to be officially available until NAMM, add to that three to four months build time and you've got some time to save up.

Plus, they could well be around for a little while, so it may not be life or death that you get the order in now.

I wouldn't sell the Dargie, or the BFR AL, both are irreplaceable in their own ways (the DD because of production, the AL because of the history etc.)

I suggest sending one of them to me for a while, so you can see how you'd feel without it!

Hey, public service and all that ;)

Definitely don't sell the Dargie as they are as rare as sunshine in the Highlands ;) Isn't your DD one of five so if you sell it, the chances of picking up another one in the UK are non existent.

What about the option of trading/selling either your standard AL or axis to raise funds for the AL.

I agree with Jimmy, there's no rush as they won't be available for ages so plenty time to replenish the GAS credits.

Smelly, I completely understand where you are coming from man, you need to sell something to get something, always a tough decision man. I'm at the point that an AL HHH would be great, but I like very much what I have, so it makes it hard to decide if I wanna part with something.

Good luck with your decision man, tough one. Glenn |B)

Just sell me that black and red guitar and your all set...................:D

Why not find an older, beaten AL and route it for HBs? Not rocket science. You might even be able to buy the new p'ups & switch assembly from EBMM. Else you can put in what you want.

You cold also do this to your BFR AL. You'd probably want to be more careful with the routing (and shield the cavity afterward), but this way you could just switch back & forth between the two p/gs with singles or HBs. Nobody would know what it looks like under the p/g.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.....................send your guitar to Beej and he will do a great job!

I hate to agree with the 2 boys but you won't be able to get one again (DD). I know because I have been looking for one since christmas and have came up empty. But if you DO decide to sell, I would love to give it a good home!
Saying that I'll be getting a DD2 if I don't get a normal DD, so all is not lost!

Keep both of them man, and stick the BP AL on interest free and pay a tenner a week for it, thats the way to do it.

Keep those two beauties please!! I agree with the people above that suggested you try single coil-sized humbuckers on an AL. You may find it convers your humbucker needs. Or it may show you how much you need real humbuckers on an AL, which should make your mind clearer.

BTW that AL is the most beautiful strat type guitar I've ever seen. Seriously.

My question then would be - is the triple hummer Al pickguard going to be available from EBMM CS to the average consumer of all things Ernie Ball?

The p/g and all the parts (switches, etc.) are usually available direct. The only time they're not is if the parts are proprietary. So I imagine it would probably depend on what kind of pickups are in there.

Cheers All,

Yes all fair points, Beej - you're probaby correct if I want to try it - An older beater is probably the way to test...

We'll see,

Spud I'm with you too! - Guitar customising is always my last plan, but I think I'm possibly there...

Watch this space....

I really wish I could have tried a 25th in a quiet room at lims - It felt great, but with bloody drummers going off every 10 seconds there was no chance....

The answer is simple in my opinion. Stop toying with the idea of selling your guitars to get another. Sell an amp, TV, stereo, etc. instead. Or take out a personal loan, credit card, ask your mum even. Sell a Dargie or a BFR is just crazy, unless you need three humbuckers really badly or something.

+1

If you have hair... sell it to a wig maker, if you don't.. trial strange new drugs to grow some. Donate your body to science if you have to! Does your son have a job? Maybe it's time he started contributing to the family unit... a 50%Dad tax perhaps? :D

Just don't sell those great axes!

Mike, be like me.

Since redundancy took over, I'm offering out my services as a giggolo at £1 a minute. So far I've made 16p.
