Went to guitar center today, and bought a lava pearl bongo with a white ice pickguard. I talked the guy down, and then he threw in a bunch of stuff. Unfortunately, it had a chip on the headstock, so hey to a four month wait until they get me the replacement :( , I'll post pictures of this one though later tonight.

That white dot is what's making me wait another four months. . .

Nice one, Ben.

(BTW, we try to avoid discussing discount prices on the forum. Hope you don't mind a bit of creative but hopefully non-destructive editing in order to comply with EBMM policy.)

So because there is a chip in a bass you got for a discount price you are getting a replacement and get to keep this bass until the other comes in? Or are you choosing to get a new bass instead?

I get to keep this bass until the other one comes in, so I got a sweet deal on a brand new bass.

I'm sorry, and I know GC is one of our biggest dealers but I get pissed when they have a guitar on the floor, and everybody and their brother manhandles it, and it gets chiped/dinged/etc and then they send it back as a warranty issue. It DID NOT leave the factory like that.

Ben this isn't about you...I was just sorta biting the hand that feeds me...Sorta.

Nice bass! Lava Pearl is such a great color. Congrats! Guess its time to change your ID to bongoplayr83. It was only six weeks ago that I purchased my Bongo. Only now am I descending from cloud 9.

Don't worry about it Jon, I guess I'm just happy about the fact that I am getting a clean bass, but it is rediculous that they would send it back to the factory for warantee. Once I get the clean one though, my only worry about the Bongo is, will I ever play Gloria (my stingray) anymore? Ever since I got home with the beast I just can't put it down.

Man those pickups sure look close to the strings. I had to lower mine way down lower than those to get a good sound. The little curved lip at the top of my neck pickup is just barely down in the pickguard. Does your neck pickup sound clean enough that high?

Since I took the pictures I lowered them, I just took them as soon as I got home out of excitement...

I hate to fan the fire, but this same thing happened to me at GC. I picked out the Bongo I wanted, and under closer inspection, it had several dings. It was obvious someone had purchased it and played it for 29 days and brought it back for a refund or exchange. They offered a lower price because of the damage, but I chose a different one. I want to be the one that puts the dents in it!

I found it kind of weird how during my two hour trip to guitar center today I saw three guitars fall, an SUB by some 10 year old kid who completely scratched it up by wearing studs, a SR5, and a Pa*l R**d Sm*th. Shows how careful people who visit guitar center are.

That does seem like B.S. to me. I'm sure you guys have better things to do(like working on legit claims and orders) then to deal with that crap. I'm sorry but they are selling the bass at a reduced price with a chip(in this case what looks like a small one) and then offering a bass without the chip for the same price when it comes in. That's not customer service that sounds like downright fraud to me. I don't fault the customer but that seems pretty shady on GC's part.

I should say, On my floor, i don't allow kids with studs, or any zippered freaks to play my basses (except the ibanez's).

My stock of musicman is flawless, all the cases are in the original boxes, and they are all in tune and clean.

the problem with most stores is that the Department manager is slacking and not keeping his guys on that.

My store has had one guitar break, and that was because some 35 year old guy decided to push the ladder into my les paul wall.....

Jon, pm me what stores these are that are sending dammaged guitars back as warranty repairs, this needs to stop, these clowns are making me as well as all the other hard working guys look bad by being idiots!

btw, we are still blowing out music man stuff, if it pleases the court, i will get a list

That's allegedly why another manufacturer (*coughJohnHallcough*) chose to discontinue doing business with GC. I know just about every bass at my local GC stores looks like it was dragged behind a car with a chain.

They're the Wal Mart of the music industry in so many ways...

It's simple, really... It's a matter of "who cares"...

Sounds like Joel cares, and his GC probably reflects that care (sounds like it does).

BTW - Love the Ibanez line... Joel's line... Not THE Ibanez line, the Ibanez LINE...

Oh... You already got that...

Anyway, my local GC is somewhat sad. I have yet to find a knowledgeable rep on the floor and recently I helped THEM with options and availability on a Buttercream Bongo. They got back to me with a disappointing price - I expected a volume dealer to have discount pricing.

Anyway, the experience helped to validate my local guy (Imperial Guitar) who continues to rate high in my book for great service AND great pricing.
