I JUST GOT THIS "MUSICMAN CUTLASS 1", anyone can give some info?

Hello friends im Hector from Ameca Jalisco Mexico and i just got this bass,
the bass was under someones bed, it has all original parts, I trade it for a cheap pearl drum set.
I have only one concern: it has two extra bolts on the back part as you can see on one of the pics but hey¡¡ its a cutlass .
I recently read that the cutlass that dont say "cutlass 1" are more rare, I just want to know if you guys can help me to date this instrument, belive me, I already tried in couple web pages and I culdn't, and what is the value talking about money? considering it has all original and its in exellent shape....

SERIAL NUMBER:B020741

if you want to find the exact date of birth you will have to take the neck off the bass. there is a date noted on both the neck and the body. the neck date would be the one you should pay attention to since bodies might have been stored for a while before being used :)
if you do this i am sure rod would be very happy if you mailed him the info so he could add it into his database :)

Hi Tolin. You have the rarer Cutlass neck. It was actually made by Modulus which displayed "Cutlass" on the headstock. The majority of necks were made by Music Man under licence from Modulas and displayed "Cutlass 1" rather than "Cutlass". There were some carbon fibre necks made in late 1982 but not named "Cutlass" at that time. As I said in the serial thread the Cutlass necks were made c. 1983 to early 1984.

The body would date from 1979-81 as the serial is on the bridge and the strings run through the body .The 2 bolts you refer to have been placed in holes previousy machined to take a 3 bolt neck plate. It's common to find Cutlass bodies dated as far back as 1979. The bodies used either 3 bolt and 4 bolt neck plates.

P.S. The neck plate on your Bass is an original 4 bolt Pre-EB plate.

Sometimes a neck or body will be undated but it's uncommon for both to be undated on a Pre-EB although I've seen it happen before.

As said previously, the necks were made c.1983 to early 84 and that would be the dating for your Bass.

I have the catalogues re the introduction of the carbon fibre neck if you need them.

Keep it man, a Stingray (alright its a cutlass) with a graphite neck is a great bass to have in your arsenal, nothing will compare to it.
