Hi guys,

Not been along here in a while, did I miss anything?

Not been in a band for about 15 years, had a 10 year break from playing and started playing again about 18 months ago.

Well last week I went for an audition, was up against 4 other bass players, and to my surprise I got the gig! It's a four piece covers pub band, playing a wide range of material from Rolling Stones through Madonna (Like A Prayer :D ) to Moloko. I really like the set list, and am frantically trying to learn everything on it. First gig is on February 19th in a local pub.

The best bits though, my practice amp is not big enough so I am "forced" ;) to buy a new rig(off to the local store on Saturday), and also I'm thinking that if I will be gigging regularly then perhaps I can justify purchasing a 5 string Bongo  . Of course, that extra string would come in soooooo useful. :D

Bassmonkey..

I'll draw some fire away from you by admitting that I once played in a Top 40 band, and we did Madonna's "Dress You Up".

I did get a wife out of that band, though. So it was worth it. ;)

Congratulations!

The cover band that I joined last September had been the most fun I've ever had. It's the first rock cover band that I've ever played in. I had to learn 60 songs in about a month so I know where you are comng from.

It'll all be worth it though! Have fun!

That's quite an achievement. I've always hated cramming, but most times it's the only way we learn.

Thanks, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm really comfortable with 99% of them now plus the band has added about 20 more tunes since I joined them.

Actually the initial learning curve is probably the hardest part. The fun is becoming a tight unit and the drink vouchers.

Colin

Look I've just joined the 1000 club :)

Exactly my situation a year ago, and the purchase of a 5 string Bongo was a wise one for sure:D
Not to mention the nice amp and stuff I also "had" to get:D

Thanks for the replies.

I'll be doing some serious woodshedding this weekend, starting when I get in from work tonight. Got a band practice on Sunday. I'm confident I can pull this off.

Never occurred to me to get some pics and give a report, but okay I'll do that.

So, any suggestions on a rig, what are Ashdown like? Choice is a bit limited where I live, and I haven't got time to go to London.

Ashdown have a good reputation as do Trace Elliot. Both products should be easy to get in your neck of the woods. After you get the right amp you then will have to get yourself an avatar.
