Last night was just an ordinary gig night like many others. There are some guys that come regularly to see us when we play in that area and they always want to hear "Pipeline", which we don't play.

Well, our lead guitarist decides we'll do our best with it and we open the show playing "Pipeline" on the fly. I don't know what happened after that, but it was just magic. It's like all the planets aligned and nothing could go wrong. The sound, the execution, just everything was on.

Tell me about one of those times that you've had where everything clicks and you end up feeling as though you're playing a gig in Utopia.

Jeez ~ been a long time since I've done a gig that didn't neccesitate popping a Viagra and a Guinness to get me throught the evening; playing the same standard set list will do that to you.

I need to find new players.

BTW, congrat's Larry! :D

Man, you guys have some rather large cojones to open with a song you don't normally play. That's awesome! Just last Saturday, at our first gig, the drummer refused to end "Funk 49", so I ended up improvising a little bass solo to extend the song a bit. Otherwise, it turned out to be a great night.

Freddy, if your band is ever playing in the Columbus area, let me and Travis know.

Righto. Our first gig was in McDonough. That's probably not too far from you guys. We put together 3 sets in four practice sessions. Luckily our first gig required only 3 sets. We're working on adding another set or two.

Viagra's not necessary at any of my gigs lately.

ever do the 2 gigs one night thing? Out of the 2 times I have done that it has always yielded at least one stellar set. Most recently it was playing support for some signed label band at a radio station sponsored gig. I think they had no idea who we were because our music is an entirely different direction than the headliner. We are a spoof band that also does some punk and rap originals. Well that set blew chunks. I think the sound guy sabotaged us.
Then we drove across the bridge to Oakland and played the best set of our lives to a lot less people with almost no sound system. We even is sour awful 12 bar blues where everybody does a solo and I did a whol12 bar bass solo and nailed it so well we just skipped everybody else solo and went back in (well we just skipped the 2nd guitarists and the drummers solos.
The first time I did this with my old band, we played the eviction party at MDCs old joint in south of market. Then drove up north for a gig in Petaluma. After getting a flat and driving the last 10 miles on the rim. Arriving 2 hours late we played the headlining slot and killed. Whcih is hard to do in a barn like the Phoenix Theatre.
Just my 2 cents.

Did one of those gigs Dec. 30th.2005. Private birthday party at a bar where there was going to be 6 other bar owners there to listen to us and see if we were worthy of a gig in their bar. Something about that stage everything went into we can do nothing wrong mode and it was fun. We pulled off a couple of songs we had never practiced per birthday girl request. Two more that could be added to the setlist.

Next night however our NewYears gig we weren't on like that. Still did okay but nothing that felt like the night before.

Man, that's great - I love that when that happens. A couple of weeks ago, we had a gig where we were asked to play a ballad for the owner and his wife to dance - it was their anniversary. We had had various technical difficulties during the evening - things just weren't going well, but we pulled out one of our best - the vocalist nails it - and d*#@ed if we could hardly even hear ourselves over a few obnoxiously loud guys at the bar. Tommy was seriously vexed    !
Out of sheer frustration we launched into an instrumental that just took on a life of it's own. Tommy was inventing stuff that blew my mind!!! (my job at that point is just not to get lost)
After that the rest of the night was dead on! It's a wonderful thing when it all clicks!!
