So, I was looking at John Mayer's equipment as pictured in recent photos. So, I got intrigued by Two-Rock. So, I get on the internet to see what this stuff is all about. Then, I locate a dealer, Amp Lounge, not far from my apartment. I called them a few days ago to ask about checking out the Two-Rock stuff that they may have. The guy I talked to, Frank, said that their sound room is getting renovated or something. He felt he couldn't really demo the amp(s) that day. He suggested that I give a call back in a couple of days to check on the status of the room. So, that was my plan.
By random chance, I chose a different route home from work today, which happened to take my by Amp Lounge. I stopped by. I saw some Egnater flyers they had there. I thought, "Wow...cool...this place really does sell some boutique stuff." Little did I know that this is Bruce Egnater's place.
This is where he and his people repair and make amps.
Bruce and the other guy there, Frank, were really pretty cool. I talked amps with Frank. Frank showed me their modular pre-amp system. Bruce talked to me about an amp building class they're going to have.
Basically, you buy a kit that will make you a JTM45 head. You'll put it together with their help. You'll hot rod it and put a master volume on there. That class sounds totally sweet. I don't have the $$$$ to take that class, but it sounds totally cool. You basically pay for the kit, and the class is less than $300.
Just a totally random encounter with someone semi-famous in the music world. It's like if Randall Smith had a store, and I just walked in randomly. Okay, I imagine Randall Smith's store might be a little bigger if he were to have one, but...same concept. (Hmm...maybe, I ought to rethink that analogy. Mesa does have a store, but I doubt Randall Smith is there building and selling stuff.) Or maybe, it's like I walked in to a store, and BP, Dudley, et al. were there selling their guitars and basses.
