FYI, FWIW.....

I love my Hercules stand BUT...I've decided the dual-guitar one I've got is just too risky and I'm offing it in favor of two of their single-guitar stands.

It's this one:

The reason is that, quite often, I gig outdoors where almost by definition the ground is not level. Now, on a flat surface, there's no problem and the stand is great. But on an uneven surface, with one bass hanging from it all you need to do is tilt it a few degrees and over she goes. I had yet another close call yesterday, with my 07 LE. That's enough. I'm done.

I'm going to be using two of these instead:

Same excellent design, auto-locking neck grabber thingy and great construction, but this one is much more stable.

I have a couple of those stands as well as some Ultimate stands. They both are similar and both are quite sturdy.

how about one of these?
STATIVE

they also exist for 5 and 7 instruments...

we use one of em as "needs maintenance" shelf in our store.. no stability issues with it. we have had incidents with the hercules stands though.. both the double and triple ones..

I now own the little foldable one, and one of each kind of the single guitar stands, and I have to say, the one with the foam on the legs is the best made single bass stand I've ever encountered. It seems like a little more stable than the own with the the little rubber foot that sticks out, which seems like more of a guitar stand to me.

Go with the single ones with the foam on the legs. It is BEAST.

I had a similar concern when evaluating my choices and went for a three-way hercules stand - found it a bit more balanced even with only one bass on it.

I have played outdoor gigs all over these hills around here using mine just like that. One bass and a guitar or just one bass. Rock solid.

imho.
