it's almost in need of a fret dress!


I've been playing this in my #1 spot since it arrived in November and I just can't get enough of it! I try and give it a good thrashing for an hour or two every day (that's a lot for me) and I've been beating on it hard enough that I can "almost" see where the frets will wear, if that ever happens. I fret so lightly I've never worn down a fret before.

Anyways, I just got done wanking the pusm after about an hour and a half, and I'm still finding it oozing new deliciousness

I'll add my 'amen' to this thread. It's my #1 and I can't put it down.

(Reminds me of a line from Ghostbusters where Sigourney Weaver tells Bill Murray to "put that child down" ... he says something like "You're ugly. You smell bad. And you're a terrible burden on your mother" )

Those Y2D's are beauties. I love they way they feel and play, but the necks seem to be missing two frets, too bad for me.

While I do love my Y2D, it still hasn't trounced the JP6 for me. The JP trem bridge is just so amazing.. !

I have to agree with you Steve. I love the Y2D to death, but at the same time, I'll put it down and grab the JP just as much. I guess it depends on what I'm playing at the time. Some guitars just seem to have a mojo for certain styles of music.

I was fooling around last night and put 10's back on the JP. I played with it for about an hour and had that wicked low action going on again. That thing is just so sweet when it's set up like that.

to be honest though, they're all amazing guitars...

You never wear frets out? Holy smokes---wish it was that way with me. I usually play 10's and I had my last str*t refretted twice---the last time with bass frets ala Stevie Ray--damn near got a scalloped effect from that. I beat those up pretty good too. As I've gotten older though my touch has certainly gotten lighter---but somtimes ya just gotta dig in a bit!!!!

Have you tried stainless yet? The brightness to me is negligible but they last sooo much longer.

Orange----no I havent tried stainless yet--though I'd like to so I could make my own judgement. I think Big Poppa said they have tried stainless on a few prototypes but have elected to stay with nickel. The general concensus seems to be in favor of nickel, but I will reserve judgement until I try it for myself!!

Nope! I've had one of my axes since '97 and it was my only guitar for almost 4 years - virtually no fret wear & I played a few hours every day and played with the HS Jazz Band during the week.

Artist preference on that Sterling quote...they tested them on some artist pieces, the guys opt'd to stay with nickle. The thing with stainless is that it can yield a brighter tone (which I think is neglible what with everything you can do to attenuate frequencies these days) but bends are fluid on them and they last forever. Anderson and Suhr are offering them as options now as so many cats are getting into them, as well I think Warmoth is also...
