I made a BIG and likely very expensive mistake today.....

..... I made the mistake of playing one of these in a local music shop today....

It is a crappy picture I know, but it is a SR4 30th single H fretted.

It is on hold for me until I decide to pull the trigger or wait for a Bongo 6. PLUS.... it is on sale for less than I would have expected.

My wife is going to open a can of whoopass if I buy this but I can't believe how it sounds. The mohogany body makes a HUGE difference and the sustain is Spinal Tap-esque.

Ok So I had a hand in these....discount the opinion as you may...
This is the very best sting ray ever made. Period. THis is such a punchy focused bass it is
a dream. The materials are uncompromised. Remember we paid $90.00 per neck blank which is about a zillion times more than a same mfr would. We had to out bid Lexus for these boards.

THe funny thing is that stores that never paid it any attention are now blowing them out....Buy it.....grind on them some more and buy it.

Ya know, I bought a 30th from GC back in December. I was strapped for cash and returned it. I have been regretting it ever since.

So....

Today I went to the same GC and the bass was still there ( a little more shop worn but still good). I got the bass for a better deal the second time around. This time it is not going back.

I also have to do some explaining on the homefront too.

I spent a lot of time shopping for a high-end bass. I tried a 30th at a near-by dealer pretty much by luck - especially since I was primarily thinking to get a 5-string. It smoked everything else I had tried. After playing through various amps for a couple of hours, I bought it and I don't regret that decision at all. Awesome bass - I love it! After joining the EB forum, I've learned quite a bit more why this bass sounds so good...

Yeah, me too. I wish I had more money. If I win the lottery I'll be "The Norwegian Dave Jeffrey". It's crazy with all the amazing sh*t EBMM has come up with lately. The Bongo,Dargies, 30th SRs, 20th SR5s, 20th Silos...the list goes on and on. I think these days may be the pinnacle in EBMM-history so far. I hope it's the start of something that's gonna last.

Believe BP or believe me, or believe neither of us, but I'm telling you, I've had a boatload of Stingrays and this is the only one that stands up to the Bongos.

BP, I'd like to say thanks for going balls out on the materials for these basses!
The beauty of those 90 dollar neck blanks in truly insane...I can't get over how godly the birdseye is on mine, and it looks stunning under that trans. crimson finish.

It's funny that as a bass player I'm able to tell the different between mahog, maple, alder, basswood, and a bunch of other woods bassed on grain, look, weight, and tone. But, I couldn't recognize any of those trees if I were to see them growing outside.

o well. mahog tone blocks for all!
