Hi great satin back guitar friends.
I love this Silouhette HSH. Except the neck thickness.
History; I have been playing for 50 years and I am 60. SO my play any neck days are getting less flexibility.

I wish there was a store to try all the models but I basically want a similar design... usual specs: 25.5" , maple neck, satin back, perhaps larger frets, 2 point trem guitar.

Any thicker neck design, come to mind?

Have you considered a HHAL or an Axis Super Sport? While neither of them are HSH, the 2 and 4 positions do a really great job of replacing the need for a single cool in the middle position. (IMHO) also the necks are very playable and are thicker than that of the Silo and Silo Spec. The Al is definitely the thicker of the 2, but the Axis neck is my favorite neck shape. I haven't played one, but the Stingray neck is supposed to be a similar shape to the Axis. Mahogany body with a maple neck could offer another solution with a little more brightness compared to the HHAL.

HSH Reflex or Gamechanger would be a great option, if you can still find one (again no longer being made but there will be some left in stores). Or the Gamechanger which is still in production, and is a Reflex with the Gamechanger electronics (which allows you to program what ever pickup wiring you want to any position of the switch).

My 25th Anniv is the thickest of all my EBMM (see below). I also had at Albert Lee HH that had fairly thick neck - you might look for a used 25th/Reflex or ALHH and see if that is helpful for you

I would also agree with the Albert Lee HH, Axis, or Reflex. You could also try out the new StingRay model - I tried it out Friday night, along with the Cutlass. Both of these new EBMM have a somewhat thicker neck than a Silhouette neck.

Thanks a lot. I will try the HH Albert Lee.
Do they have the small frets too?
Any other 25.5" scale models that have both a 12" radius and medium jumbo fret wire (wider shoulder but medium height)?

I love the MM fret work and fret board rolled edges.

Armada! The neck is finished, but, like all finished EBMM necks I have played, it's not an issue. The neck is HUGE. I've never played a Dark Lord Morse, but apparently it has a large neck, as has already been mentioned.

Well it seems like there's different perceptions of thick necks.

I don't find the Albert, Silo, Axis to be thick necks - I've got small hands and notice
that certain baseball bat necks are no good for me.

try before you buy.

Spud - I think it's all relative. The AL, Axis, Reflex and maybe the new Cutlass and StingRay are the thickest EBMM necks. But a "thicker" EBMM neck is more like a "Medium" neck from some other manufacturers.

I have played most EBMM neck shapes and none are what I'd ever call big, most of them I wish in an ideal world would have wider nuts and deeper profiles even though they are all very playable. An Albert Lee or Morse are more substantial compared to a silhouette though. As Spud says play a few first to find what works for you, luckily I am fairly immune to profile shapes and can easily move between my skinny necked LIII and the proper chunky piece of timber that forms part of my R8 Les Paul.

Definitely a Darklord, neck built to Joe Bonamassa specs but yes can only get used, really beefy. But after that Armada and the new Stingray but those are not super beefy:) Will know soon on the Cutlass.

My mate builds/repairs guitars for a living - I'm around his workshop most Saturdays working as a coffee boy and phone operator lol.

He always has a bit of a joke with me - "Hey Spud - try out this neck/guitar I just made/fixed - it'll be too big for you, nothing like the skinny necks your used to".

I then remind him that I was the one who taught him about BC gun stock oil n wax on EB MM guitars so to be nice to me.

I can take it !! lol

P.S. One of the most unusual guitars he made was from pine and no truss rod. The pine was very very old with VERY close growth rings giving it natural rigidity. The neck had to be substantial - that was the thickest neck I ever played - and I have to say, one of the most resonant guitars ever - sounded fantastic. Who would have thought it huh? Pine.

Strage that we all have differing opinions....I have a few balls mentioned, and would say I find the ALHH to have the 'smallest' neck feel; while my reflex feels the thickest. The reflex is also def thicker than the silhouette, but feels similar to my hand

hope this helps!

An MM dealer just got in a StingRay; this dealer takes measurements of the necks on their in-stock instruments. They list this StingRay as .840" at the first fret and .930" at the 12th fret if that helps.
