I turned up last night for a Jam night and was carrying my Black Albert Lee in with me.

The organisers come up to me and says "Is that a bass - cos we are desperate for a bass player!"

I say "What the hell" - (I wanted to be a bass player when I was 16 and lost out on this preference by tossing a coin with a buddy - he became a bass player - I took up guitar.)

I played for best part of half an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it- even had some great compliments and a kiss on the cheek:eek:. Mr & Mrs OlPlayer were there too.

Later I played my AL through a Matchless amp - wowza! The owner of the amp was very complimentary too about the sound I had with my Albert- shoot I just plugged in and off I went on his settings!!

So before I get lured forever to this "Dark side" I need help - or maybe I need a Big AL Bass

The Big Al is the logical choice for you, isn't it?

And yet, the Bongo always lurks, awaiting its next victim.

Yes Jack you are right.

But I will be trying a Bongo at the knucklehead bash - and seeing one go for $500 the other day - who knows.

I gotta say though - I did enjoy the experience last night - first time I have played bass in front of an audience!!

Yep , playing bass is great.

Nothing better than locking with a decent drummer and looking out at a load of bobbing heads. Times like that I truly feel like "The Puppetmaster".

Haven't played bass in public since my duo formed in '97....but it's still looking at me in the lounge and I love using it on recordings. Remember at any jam there are always 10 guitarists (all needing a tedious 5 minute solo) for every bass player, drummer & singer.
Get yourself a bass Spud...even if it's not an expensive one just yet.
