Being an EBMM player, where you're used to small necks, going to 7-string might be a bit of a transition for you.
I used 7-string guitars for years, still do, but I'm a little spoiled on the JP6 necks, much easier to play. But I do like the wider flat necks the 7-string has, kinda like a classical guitar. Don't think you'll ditch your Luke for a 7-string, they really are completely different animals.

The transitioning back and forth between the two, at least for me, is not a problem at all. I feel they complement each other so I keep both my 6 stringers and 7 stringer

I play a luke and a jp7 the sounds are different but the transition takes a little time ...... just play it and you'll have it before too long. I would say that I have problems with the luke and 7 at gigs but really its not that different .... the jp7 is a little louder but as tone goes remember most of it is in your fingers

I know my way around a 6-string, but I couldn't get to grips with a 7. Your miles may vary though, many many guitarist obviously switch effortlessly! Hope to see those AxeFx-clips soon Dean, I love your work (did it show in your last post :D???)!

I've been wanting one too for a while. I play my classical alot so I dont think the wide neck will be a problem. I wish there was a cheaper option like a Sterling model just to get my feet wet.

Piece of cake. When I had my sevens, it did not take much to get acquainted.

Took me just a couple of weeks to get the hang of playing a 7-string. Now it just feels like a 7-string and a 6-string feels like a 6-string.

It took me some weeks to get used to the 7.
These days I switch between a mandolin, my Luke, a 7 and an 8 during gigs :p
Only problem is after I play the 8, the 7 feels like the 6, the 6 feels like the mandolin and the mandolin feels like a pencil :D

Dean, if you're going with a JP7, it won't be a hard switch at all. Easily the best neck of any 7 I've ever played. Been playing 7s since 2001 when I got my first Ibby 7 and I haven't looked back since. You'll feel right at home easily. I ditched all my 6s just because I was so used to the 7s and playing stuff on them that wasn't intended for 7s became a breeze. Like if I'm playing some Megadeth or something, I don't even notice the 7th string. Now, if you were going for a Schecter Loomis 7 or something like that, I'd tell you to start practicing with a baseball bat cause that's how that neck feels!! Hahahaha!

I'm sure most of you guys have more skill in your pinky's than I do in my whole body, and the transition for me was rather straight forward. The only thing I notice now is that since I started playing six strings again, I have to think a bit more when playing the seven...it's easier (or was easier) to go back to the six, after playing sevens exclusively for several years. i can donate my JP7 say for about 1400.00!!!

You won't have to worry about not wanting to going back to 6 strings. Hook up with Phil when his arrives into Melbourne
