I'd point the finger at those amps, isn't the marshall a guitar amp? Every tko I have used sounded like ass.

Might want to try different strings as well.....DR highbeams, or stainless low riders.

this is what works for me... at times...
set the EQ on your amp flat (no boosting or cutting any frequencies) then boost the bass on your SR5 to almost full , cut your mid a little and then boost the treble to taste. This should get you in the ballpark, from there if it still isn't happening try some stainless steel strings(as stated above) and/or tweak your technique a little.
all the best with it

ps. if you really want that Marcus sound, look into getting either a good compressor pedal or rack mount model, that's a huge part to that tone and most 'modern' slap tones

cheers!

Yeah i had this problem at start, but the Stingray is such a good bass it will sound great with a bit of experimenting. To create a flea/funk like sound i use good old rotosound string standard gauge and either my warwick 500 head or laney combo. Then i set the bass eq to full and slightly cut the treble and then run it through my Boss ODB-3 overdrive pedal but cutting the distortion so it gives me the extra eq to mess about with and a bit more punch than normal, sounds complex but works great...I have a '92 SR4 Byt he way.

Hope i have been of some help...Brad
