and it is a Stingray!

:D

I have gone through many life changing experiences this year and I am not worse for the wear. I have however pushed music and playing to the background (that and my 10 pc band is not getting much work these days, no gigs for the entire summer!). I am putting my time and energy into my family and other hobbies I have so I have sold off all but one and may even give up playing for a while. But, I just wanted to let the faithful brethren know, that when I picked one to stand with me....well you knew what it would be.

See you cats around the campfire....or tailgate since college football is just around the corner.

There is no reason on earth to consider not playing music. I appreciate you keeping the stingray but playing music is what we all do. I dont care if its exploring computer stuff or a duo or escaping with a drum machine . Scott you are a bass player.

A resurrection of PoPoppa's lessons on playing live and random tidbits thread seems to be appropriate. Skinny string side...

Yes. You shouldn't give up music, even if your band isn't getting any gigs. I'm sure that you wouldn't even have owned a Stingray in the first place if you didn't love music and playing bass. I'm sure you'll be able to find time to play it.

Anyways, that grain pattern on the body is pretty sweet. You made a good choice on which bass to keep!

Scott, good to hear from you. I thought about you the other day.

If you need anything bro, let me know. I would like to echo Poppa. Youre a player, so dont give up on it completely if at all possible.

you are a bass player.

I don't know how many of you know this, but that statement right there is one hell of a compliment.

And he's right, Barmy. You ARE a bass player. I know what you've been dealing with and I know it's hard, but you also know how easy it is to forget all that when the band is working just right.

Just keep playing, my brother.

Always good to hear from you.

Wow, thanks BP and gang. I appreciate the warm sentiment. I hope I did not come off like I was sticking my head in the sand. I am just having a great time in my life now as a single dad with my kids. I have a good job and my parents are both moving to my city after over 20 years in different states and time zones.

But I am actually getting pretty heavily involved with competition shooting. I have always enjoyed shooting but never gotten into it on a competitive level and it is really become a real quest for me. It is something else that I seem to have developed a natural talent for and lot of my time is going towards that now. I will never stop being a bass player or musician. I have just grown weary of chasing every gig I could for a buck. With gas prices, that is starting to show a minimal return. But I will never stop. MY license plate on my 4Runner is "RMEBASS".

I am here to stay, and I love my Stingray. My sound guy threatened to "f up" my sound for eternity if I got rid of that Ray. He is really good at what he does, we are lucky to have him as our full time guy. He told me that the bass was amazing and he recorded us several nights and gave me the rough mixes...he is right. I sound just like many of my heroes in the tone department. But I need to give the playing the down time it deserves to make sure the love stays strong. I seemed to have missed that in my marriage, but I don't want to miss it with my kids and the other loves in my life.

BTW Jack, she just got a job as a border patrol agent in TX. Keep your head down bro....LOL. Love ya gringo!

barmyass!

I wish I were in the area to take you out for a beer. Keep on playing when you got the urge. Good to see you're keeping the keeper.

Scott,

I'm a sucker for natural finished, maple FB, black PG basses and especially when the subject in case (no pun intended) is a Stingray.

I can't understand how can you give up on music so easily, the picture of your bass alone made me want to grab one of my 'Rays and fire up the Markbass rig....

Hi there Scott. I don't know what other basses you had, but any way you slice it, you can't go wrong with the one you decided to hold on to. It doesn't get more classic than that. What year is that one - 94/95? Love those bridges.

Anyway, sounds like you know what you want & what's important to you, which is a great thing. Best of luck to you.

Good choice! On the bass, and on getting away from music being a stressful income source! I'm sure you'll end up enjoying your only bass even more in the future

Oh, and congratulations on that sensible sound guy :)

Scott the family love is the most important. The music comes from that so hang in there and play when you will.

Good luck with the shooting sport too.

Sounds to me like you have both your head and your heart working to your advantage.

You are a bass player and always will be.

Hug the kids for Meo and I too. They grow up too fast.

Please wear double hearing protection (not like me, who's deaf as a post...well, only when the boss is talking to me...) when shooting. Good luck. Keep the axe handy, it's more stress relieving to noodle along with an album at home than you know, and easier to get to than the range. Good luck, God bless you man!
