As I'm working just down the road from Strings n Things in Shoreham on Sea, the Lemon arranged a visit to S & T at 4:00 pm last night.
So with "bribery and Corruption" in mind I went armed with a damn good supply of biscuits to go with the "promised cup of tea."
The First thing was to get through "security" and sign the visitors book - I bet that there will be some shocked faces when they see Time of Arrival 4:00 pm Visitor SpudMurphy Company HMRC. (I should have signed it ALOC!)
So first off I met up with the lads in the office some of whom I'd worked with and seen at Knucklehead bashes.
I was presented with a couple of tins of "EB 50th Anni pics", also I was shown a couple of acoustic guitars that they were thinking of taking on board, and was given a guided tour of their distribution facility.
S & T don't just distribute EB guitars/merchandise, they also distribute other "stuff" such as Drum equipment, Hercules stands etc. Just imagine walking into a guitar shop store room and multiply that by a hundred!!
The EB guitars and Sterling guitars were stocked high and it was a shame that they were all in boxes - who knows what little treasures were lurking beneath?
I had a chat with the lads and was told about possible future events - I'm sworn to secrecy as things are still in the process of being finalised. - I hope one thing comes off
I did try and get some inside info on the Gamechanger but was really told nothing new.
The thing that will stay in my mind is the view of all the guitars in the storeroom - think of the camera shot in Raiders of the Lost Arc - when the Arc of the Covenant is placed onto a storage rack and the camera keeps panning back and back… …
.... ahh in this thing that I call a "Music Hobby" I feel privileged to have visited the facility.
Thanks Pete and thanks S & T. I hope I passed the interview – now when do I start? Lol.
Finally congrats to Ming who was a bit nervous – his daughter is getting married on the week end – so good wishes to you and your family, I hope it goes off all ok – do you need a band for the night?? lol
