I always thought basswood was rather straight grained and not very impressive in a stained trans finish. I like the swirly pattern of that piece.

Here ya go, like the first pic, this is before the cavities were stripped. It's important to get the paint off the recessed areas so the top of the control cavity cover sits flush with the top surface of the body. Otherwise, if you play without clothes on like the guys in the bass forum do, it sticks out and scratches you.

Whoaaa - I'm glad you specified guys!!

You could really use those swirls to your advantage on a wild stain job

Agreed - a really dark stain so just a hint ofthe grain is visible - that would look cool!

Pete---No christmas-----I was refering to the old school chopper look like on a chopper tank. I've done that on an old Triumph chopper I had. House of Color green metal flake base(with big old Flakes---even bigger thatn the flake in the blue dawn type stuff)--then a candy gold layer to make it pop then clear coat. Its a real color shifty look. If yur a Mopar guy how bout Grabber Green????:D

Those swirls were made while removing the black paint. The grain itself isn't really anything special.
