okay, so i went out tonight and played that SUB again. it was too awesome to not buy, so i bought it.

it sounds, as you might expect, fantastic. there is nothing not to like about this bass, period.

here are some pics, and if you read my first post about a S.U.B., an bit of an update- i have not had a cigarette in just about 48 hours. i had like two left in the pack when i made that first post, and after they were gone that was it. so about 48 hours smoke free (i have tried the patch before, no such luck) i am just going to go cold turkey this time. i am pretty awesome, and i would like to think i am more than awesome enough to not smoke cigarettes, regardless of how much i think i might like to have one.

anyway:

Hey I’m happy for you; use your new bass to kick an old habit. Every time you want to smoke pick up that bass instead and play till you don’t think of that cigarette anymore. Sure it’ll be a little awkward after a big meal or sex but look at the health benefit! :D

Great bass and good luck!

thanks, everyone! i was blown away by how nice the fretboard is on this bass. it is probably the nicest piece of rosewood i have ever seen. when i got my bongo, i was shocked at how much color the fretboard had compared to all other rosewood boards i have seen, and i think this SUB has an even nicer looking fretboard than my bongo. all this time i had been thinking that rosewood was pretty boring and uniformly dark brown- that is not that case with EBMM stuff. though i must admit that i took that picture within minutes of a wonder wipe, maybe that helped. though i am obviously not much of a photographer- that fretboard just looks that good.

thanks for the support with the quitting smoking, too. it ain't easy, every little bit helps. but that is the plan- every time i feel like smoking, i pull this bass out and play it. and while i am here at work, just thinking about playing it has been working pretty well.

though i am considering a pickguard replacement... maybe as a reward for a month smoke free? that gives me a month to decide what color i want. i am open to suggestions, of course.

and then i figure for month two, i will treat myself to a replacement pickguard for the bongo.

maybe for a year smoke-free i will treat myself to another new bass!

Sweet bass man, they are awesome, like sloshep, a no frills 2 band ray ;) I love mine to bits and can't see myself ever getting rid of it. Also cool colour, you don't see many like that, i believe jack has one like that that the forumites bought for him. May i ask how much you paid for yours? also mine has a pretty nice board too :) EBMM make(and made) some top notch stuff!

Also a black PG might look good, that's what i have on mine.

yeah, i am thinking black or tort. is yours that 'cinnamon' color? i am not even sure what colors these all came in. don't know too much about them at all, really. i paid 500 for this one, it was new but hanging on the wall for a few years.

i have been in this shop many times and only this past weekend discovered that they had this bass or were an EBMM dealer at all. which is kind of a bummer that i didn't know but pretty awesome that i now do- they are a mom-and-pop type place and i would much rather give them the business than the GC across the street. i also got to play a bongo 5 for the first time there which was pretty sweet- my local GC hasn't had one of those ever that i recall. so i am psyched to have a cool EBMM dealer locally.

Well done that man!

Your health is bound to improve by ditching the cigarettes, just avoid eating carrots...
everyone who ate carrots in 1701 is now no longer with us (fact) so they must be lethal.

:)

I quit smoking in '02 and don't miss it. I'm not one of those reformed smokers who preach it either, they are just as annoying. Also, anyone who ate anything in 1701 is no longer with us ;)

Aye, mine is that burgundy red colour, whatever you want to call it. Looks really nice in the right light i think, particularly where i'm sat now, it seems to sparkle a bit. I think black would look nice on yours, its a bit of a hard colour to match with that one...

Also i know what you mean, i'd much rather buy from a smaller shop because the big ones are sucking the business right out of them. I've given them a bit of business and i like to think i'm making a bit of a difference :)

Mmm....I've been eyeing off a reddish-burgundy sub myself. I was thinking it's a cheap way to experience the two band thing.

Nice, two banders are the coolest :D! Have you considered putting the contours in yourself and refinishing it? I mean i've got nothing against the colour or anything it's just contours would make it more comfortable.

bradfordws had that done to his SUB 5, and it looks amazing. the silver sparkle finish on that bass is just nuts!

i probably won't do it to mine, though... i will probably just change the pick guard and keep it otherwise stock. i have always had trouble convincing myself to modify something (cars, basses, motorcycles) in any manner that would prevent it from being returned to stock. i will probably end up with a stingray and a sterling too, so i am just going to rock the SUB the way BP intended. the fact that i was able to find one new at an incredible price despite the fact that they quit making them a couple years ago was just awesome.
