this is not intended to be a GC bash thread, a political rant or anything of that kind.

i thought it would be beyond cool in the same way that EBMM pays its employees living wage as a starting salary for EBMM to team up with all of its independant retailers and release a bass that is available only in the stores run by the little guy.

A lot of independant retailers out there offer some pretty good deals on musicman instruments and sell a whole bunch of them.

for example i got my bass in 2004 for an even 999 dollars from this single location retailer music center in wisconsin.

and in this downed economy the little businesses are going to take a harder hit than larger companies with multiple locations. of course this would be a lot trickier as you'd have to be working with a lot of different people but i think that it would be something genuinely awesome.

and a lot of these companies are ran by really cool people. my local music store is letting me pay every two weeks a minimum of 5$ and if i bring anyone there and they purchase something i get 10% of what they payed off my purchase. the layaway has no time limit and if i say i dont want what i bought initially i can get something else store with store credit.

these small mom n pop shops are flat out awesome and i think it would be far awesome if EBMM would release something that was specifically available only through them.

im only suggesting this because i think EBMM is the only company that would do something like this. they make the best basses in the world in my opinion and are constantly innovating rather than sticking to an old model and never changing. not only this EBMM is constantly doing awesome things for people ie, not outsourcing the manafacturing jobs, paying a living wage to workers, the best customer service team on the planet, promotion of local bands through battle of the bands events and so much more.

I believe a special edition only makes sense when you know you will sell enough for sure. And there goes the problem with the little shops, who can not afford to stock on anything other than plain standart.

The Bongo is that bass.

I got both of my Bongos from a local music shop called MAE.

I first saw the Bongo at GC but ordered from my local shop as the guys from GC did not seem to be knowledgeable on the item but acted like you couldn't explain anything to them. Not meant to be a bash on GC but just how it was. After I picked up my Bongo they had a couple hanging on the wall the next time I came in.

At my local music shop I could talk to the guy Jeff who would listen and not talk down to me. We built a nice friendship, my wife and I have even been to his house and met his family and cool dog :)

Same thing happened with basscentral from whom I got my 25th. It just felt nice to be seen and treated as a person and not just a sale.

And... IT - JUST - WON'T - DIE!

Scientists have determined that, thanks to continuous mind control ray exposure, in The Future everyone will have a Bongo.

Muhahaha, and all that.

I was visiting relatives in Florida over the Holidays and was able to stop in at Bass Central. Got my mits on a Big Al for the first and only time there. Those guys were really nice, they kept the store open an hour after closing just to talk with me, my father and brother-in-law even though it was clear we were not buying anything (and believe me, I wanted to buy that Big Al and the Eden rig I played it through). Mike even promised to send me a free t-shirt when they get their shipment in.

Now if only I had some spending cash...

I'm not sure I understand your thread. Are you saying the smaller stores should try and order a limited MM model? This would be very hard to do if not logistically impossible. As GC has the infrastructure they can do this. Having said that I'd love to have the option to jump on the end of Japans specials runs.
