Well....I didn't exactly tell her. She overheard me on the phone ordering my Silhouette Special. She asked "Who were you talking to?" I told her I was ordering a guitar to be specially built for me. She asked "And how much does this guitar cost?" I said "oh.....um....uh...around eleven hundred dollars."

She looked like she just bit into a lemon.

She may get over it-of course, who am I to say, as I'm not married. :D

Not like the guy who ordered a $31,000 bass from Alembic and "forgot" to tell his wife-THAT did not go over well.

Big Poppa you should think about putting something for the wives in the guitar cases to smoothen the heavy weather a bit, this should be an option like piezo or matching head.
I think this would be great and funny

Colin and I had this discussion just the other day.

Our wives don't realise how fortunate they are, we could be dropping $35,000 AUD on a Gibson Clapton 335 limited edition but no, we choose to be budget conscious and only spend a couple of grand on our guitars.

Look how much I saved - I've heard that from her mouth before ;)

Here's one way I justified it:

Say you drop a grand on a new, state-of-the-art computer. How long is it going to last? Five years (if you're lucky) before it's too slow and not enough memory?

A high-quality musical instrument is not a consumable commodity. It doesn't get obsolete. My Silhouette Special will last for the rest of my life, and after I'm gone my son will enjoy it as much as I will.

So there.

foggie youd be homeless and guitarless

On the bright side, here in Canada unless there's an extreme circumstance, then everything is split 50:50

On the not so bright side, she'd take that literally and cut the guitar in half, give me half and beat me with the other half!!!!
