Anybody gone this far to make the do-all AL? I know resale would tank, but it could be my all-night guitar. I've had the PRS Swamp Ash Special, but love the MM rosewood necks, and the AL body. Had a hardtail AL MM90 (I traded it, stupidly), and finally ordered the HH/trem. I'd love the 2/4 position quack by adding a Lollar noiseless single, or Duncan rail. Is it too involved? My tech would have to rout the body, so it won't be real cheap. While I'm at it , I could pop in Duncan P-Rails, to get the P-90 choice on the 'buckers too.

Just do it - seing as the AL has a pickguard, the operation is virtually reversible... Give it a go!

If your going to have your tech do the routing, I would highly suggest he get a single coil router template from StewMac and match up the paint afterwards in the bare cavity. I would think this would not hurt resale all that much, might even enhance it for some folks, if done in a professional manner. You'll have to either modify the existing pickguard or better yet get one cusstom made by Chandler (pickguard heaven).
Dante says it all. I'm not a "modder" really. I'll have a 30 day trial from GC and I'll see if the guitar works without touching a thing. The other good idea is to just use 2 P-Rails first. I had them in another guitar( Heritage 140), and really liked them. The trem is important this time around. I use a Callaham strat, and a Kendrick Townhouse all night, but have been debating about the AL MM90, or HH. I had a credit at GC, and got a good enough price, to buy the darn thing. If I like the feel of the new guitar, I'll still consider the 3 pickup. Thanks for the helpful input.

I'm confused, do you already have the HH AL? and if not have you played one yet? I'm not opposed to modding a guitar, but I don't think its wise to buy a high end guitar with the intentions to mod it before even playing it... you'll never be happy with the tone.
Last wait till after NAMM... BP may show off a new HHH AL as all signs seem to point towards the HH AL sales being positive.

i'd wait if i were you. we've see HHH ALs so maybe they're going to be available for us to purchase soon.
if you cant wait you should buy a used HSH Silhouette or a Y2d to hold you over.

To clarify, I do not have the guitar yet. Should be late next week. I've played the hardtail AL HH, so I know what I'm getting. That said, I'll see how much musical ground it covers. The MM90 is almost perfect, but I wanted the HH for my heavier sounds. And, I really wanted to use the credit as it had a time limit, from a warranty return. As for a triple humbucker, who knows. I'll hope to love the HH, and be done. I'll do a you tube hopefully, soon after, especially if I mod it. The HSS Silo is a great suggestion, too. I had a Silo HSH years ago, and loved the neck, but didn't bond with the sound. The green AL with that rosewood neck is so appealing to me, I have to try it out. I've got a few shows within the 30 days trial to check it out. Just can't light it on fire, until I know I'm keeping it. (slide with a beer bottle, and vodka glass can nick the frets, so that's on hold too.)

If you do it, you'd likely want to split the bridge or neck along with the middle in the quack positions. In that case you'd want a regular (non-noiseless) single in the middle, so it would be hum-free when combined with the split 'bucker. Just sayin'.
