so tonight i went to a club in SF to see A Wilhelm Scream and Strung Out.
The show was great - but what i really wanted to mention was the fact that I was flat out blown away by the bass playing of Brian Robinson of A Wilhelm Scream. The band is some cross of Sick of it All, Iron Maiden and melodic punk (a la Face to Face). The EBMM connection is that Brian plays an SR4... and man is this guy good.
I would have to say that his playing style is some insane mish-mash of Cliff Burton (ex Metallica), Matt Freidman (Rancid) and Stu Hamm. seriously! This guy is that good!
Oh man. I have their albums and maybe he didnt play on em (i heard he's new-ish) but live it was just something else. he plays finger style and play faster than most pick players. his fills are creative, serve the song, compliment the guitars awesomely and tasteful. he knows when to play slow, when to play less. he even busts out crazy tapping stuff. on their oct release they have a song called "horse" and they played it live and it was awesome. really cool, fast, rad, 2 handed tapping stuff on the bass ... while he sings harmonies.
seriously this guy's badass! he's the bassist i wish i was
oh man ive gotta practice a lot more after seeing this. i dont remember the last time i was this blown away by a bassist.
wow
Brian Ball: have you ever dealt with this dude? I think i remeber reading something about A Wilhelm Scream here a while ago
