Hello fellow Ball-ers

Ok, it's no big revelation after all, curiosity rather.

I've only been on this forum for a couple of months so it is possible that someone has already brought this up before me... Also, I'm not sure if this is the right section of the forum for this post, but I couldn't really find any place where it would fit better.

Anywhooo...

I was browsing the forum the other day, when it suddenly hit me! Ernie Ball started out as a guitar string manufacturer, only later expanding into the guitar making business (with a great success I might add), yet there are only a handful of threads regarding strings. Most of the discussions are focused on guitars...

I wonder if and how this is reflected in the company's business model, I mean whether most of their turnaround (or profits) comes from the guitar/bass sales, strings being only a small part of the pie.

Has anyone thought of it, or is it just mind wandering off on a lunch break?

PS. Apologies for the lame quote from ''The Matrix'' ;)

It is quite interesting that the biggest business generates the least social feedback. Probably a good topic for a thesis in economy and/or sociology. I'll stick to playing guitar.

Hmmmmmm maybe strings aren't as SEXY as the axes. I know I hardly EVER talk about my strings, but I am ALWAYS singing the praises of my SR5.

No surprise that the strings are their bread and butter.

I don't have much to say about the strings, except that Super Slinkys are the only strings I'll use. I've tried lots of brands, but the Super Slinkys feel great and give me my desired tone, especially when pinching harmonics. I play mostly 80's hairmetal stuff.

I've been playing the same set of cobalts for more or less 6 months now. Not sure how much it's due to the materials used or the fact that I've been cleaning the strings quite regularly, but they still do feel nearly the same as when I first installed them. Being a creature of habit I'll probably stick to cobalts when the time comes to change them, but I might just surprise myself and go back to regular slinkys, which I used before cobalts.

Just checked in my 'guitar stuff that I need to get 'round to organizing' box and found 5 packs of super slinkys, from at least a couple of years ago.
