Hi!
I"m having some problems with the correct truss rod and string height of my bass(a Singray 5, natural with maple neck, serial nr:55889. I use Ernie Ball strings. at higher positions(8 and above) the strings action seems too high ,I still get lots of string buzz in the lower positions, What is the factory setup? How should I adjust the truss rod and string action? Any help would be appreciated. I got the feeling nothing is right anymore.

regards

PS Any suggestions on taking care of the neck, wax, gunstock oil etc ?

To correct the problem you need to loosen the truss rod. I use a fairly straight neck and low action but I still have approximatly room for a credit card between the string and the 8th fret when pressing the B string at the first and the last fret. Use the left hand for the first fret, the right arm elbow for the last fret and your right hand to check string distance at the 8th fret. More information can be found at www.garywillis.com.
