I've been travelling this week and got the chance to try out an sss Al today for the first time at a LGS. First off, it made me long to be back home with my mm90 Al but it also got me thinking that i need to sell my nash and buy an sss Al. What a righteous sounding/playing guitar. I usually loathe plucking out chops in guitar shops but not today...I attribute this solely to the Al...I just dig what these guitars pull out of me musically.

A natural or trans red sss Al with a tort guard - that would be epic, eh?

I REALLY don't understand that feeling! No idea what you're talking about!

jonah, are you looking to replace your Strat, augment your live sound, G.A.S.sing for a new guitar?

I love my Strat, so not really looking to replace it but possibly because of weight. I have developed some horrendous back problems so the Strat is now to heavy to play standing up (7.7 pounds). So ultimately I probably will end up replacing it with something lighter, and if the AL ends up being that, then fine with me.

Other considerations are something with hotter pickups. After borrowing a Les Paul jr I got a hankering for something a little more rockin than my Strat, but am ultimately a clean-ish so that's what made me look at the AL MM90 as opposed to the HH model.

Lastly, with my health going down the tubes I wanted to buy something that makes life a little better (and what's better than a new guitar)

The Axis SS I owned was in the mid 6 lb. range. The Silhouettes I currently own are both over 7 lbs. (the tremolo pushes it closer to 8 than 7). I don't know what the Albert Lee weighs, but the website has average numbers for you.

You'd be surprised how well the DiMarzio humbuckers sound clean. The Axis' are a little hotter than the Silhouette's HSS, but they split well for a bit of twangy treble (if you have the 5 way switch).

I may get chastised for this, but have you considered a replacement Strat body? Chambered, hollow body or a lightweight pine body with universal pickup rout allows for a multitude of pickup options and should get your guitar in the low 6 lb. range. It's a bit of a crapshoot since you won't know what the guitar sounds like until you've had it put together.
