... about my band's first gig this Saturday, I just found out the whole thing is going to be professionally video recorded as well!

My singer works for a guy that does lots of interviews and recordings of national acts, his boss offered to come and record us for free as kind of a "thanks".

Granted, everyone in this band is a veteran and has played many, many gigs playing original music (over 3,000 myself), we have never played together live yet. We've been together for a little over a year and written some great music I'm very proud of.

Everyone in the band is really talented, I don't know what I'm worried about. Well, partially I'm worried about myself. I've got a bazillion notes to play and some really challenging solos to play as well. Hopefully I won't blow it!

It's going to be a pretty big turnout. The club owner has already told us they've been innundated with calls inquiring about what time we go on.

I guess I'll just practice and practice and practice for the next two days (we've rehearsed about 20hrs in the last two weeks) and do the best I can.

I just don't want to get over excited and screw up or something. I hate it when I do that!

Just tune out the cameras (slight pun intended). As long as they're not in your face, you'll forget about them once you get your groove going.

Have fun with it...ham it up if you feel the need to blow off some nervousness.

Remember, they were rolling video at the Open House. Short of the occasional glimpse at the camera crew, they didn't exist to me.

Good luck with the show man! If you guys are as talented as you say (I am NOT doubting that), you should not have a problem. Plus, you get to post the video or pics for us to check out......we will be waiting! :D

That's a lot of gigs! Every night for 8 years straight. As long as the mix is good, you guys will probably sound great I'm guessing.

The best advice I can give you is have a shot and a beer 20 minutes before you go on, and don't drink anymore the rest of the gig. 2 drinks will loosen you up, but shouldn't hurt your playing. Continuing to drink will make you sound awesome that night, but when you see the video you will be horrified.

Here's something to think about...Your bandmates are talented and seasoned players...................and they picked YOU to play with them. That says alot. YOu have the talent, just chill out and have fun.

Good job Norm.

Good luck Jeffrey!

I have a terrifying gig this weekend too. We're going to be live on the radio.

Well, everything went great!

For our first show, we had an excellent turn out. Well over 200 showed up and stayed through our entire set. I got a zillion compliments on my tone and clarity of my sound and my playing (man that feels good! hehe).

I also got a few "what kinda guitar is that? Ibanez?" comments. When I said "it's an Ernie Ball" the first response was always "they make guitars?!" whacky eh? :D

Anyway, I'm really happy how it all went and can't wait to play again (our next show is on the 29th). We've been offered (literally) about 10 shows tonight; a few for nationals (the next would be opening for Shadows Fall).

We'll see how it goes. :)

I'm just really happy everything went off without any major hitches. And yes, my EB JP 7 's were excellent. :)

I think I was more nervous for the band as a whole than for myself, I dunno.

I've played in front of thousands on more than one occasion, hell I played the Jazz Fest in New Orleans half a dozen times, god knows how many people are listening to you then. ;)

I guess because this was my first gig in about eight years I had a lot riding on it personally. :)
