If the Axis had a tone pot....?

If the Axis had a tone pot what setting would it be on? (I'm assuming someone on the forum has an Axis and an Axis SS HH to compare).

Just wondering!

You know, I've read this question over about ten times, and I still can't make any sense out of it... Do you mean, "Does the tone pot on the Axis Super Sport affect the tone when set at ten, compared with an Axis?", or am I missing the point completely?

What I THINK he means: is the tone on the Axis comparable to a SS with the tone knob turned all the way to treble, all the way to bass, or somewhere in between (i.e 80/20 treble to bass, 50/50, etc.).

At least I've had question that question before .:)

My response was close, they'd probably put a cap and resistor in there to simulate a wide open tone pot. I've done that on guitars I've built.
 
So you mean on an EVH-style Axis the "tone" setting is the equivalent of "10" on the tone knob of a Super Sport Axis? (still with me?)
 
I think the Axis Super Sport sounds a little more restrained and refined than the Axis, and I think it has a lot to do with the tone control and the extra connections for splitting the coils on the humbuckers in the in-between positions on the five way switch. Of course, the mass of the Floyd adds it's own touch to the Axis' tone, and I think (though I haven't measured to check, yet) that the pickups are a little closer to the strings in the Axis than in the Sport or Super Sport (but I'll have to check that)...
 
when you use a 250K tone pot in conjunction with the 500K volume pot to things happen even if the tone pot is on 10,
1. the output drops very slightly
2. the highs are attenuated slightly
this is due to the extra resistance load from the pot

mind you you can use a NO LOAD tone pot and when on 10 it has no affect on neither:cool:
