If you found a bargin MMan on a auction site but was a little worse for wear in the finish stakes and devoid of worn in character, would you have any probs in re finishing it? Know its depends on how prestige it was in the first place but its just a older standerd Axis sport, block finish.

I would, But it would be a well thought out professional job. I would not ever refinish a personal guitar that I was the first owner. A used guitar I could make my own though. :)

I don't think I'd have a problem with refinishing it, but I'm not sure I'd want to either.

It really depends in the whole state of the guitar, although as long as it worked, that would be the most important factor for me.

My philosophy has been, if you're gonna care for the guitar, show it love, and most importantly play it, then go for it.

I'm not one for project guitars, for the sake of project guitars. Has to get played! If its a sweet playing axe then I'd do it!

I'd do it as long as it played great. I've never undertaken a refinish project, and I wouldn't do it to an EBMM in good shape, so I'd see this as a chance to do something unique and a reflection of my personal style.

I'd go for it. I'm on the hunt for a few things and if I can get them for a song I'll make them my own.

Actually I'm in the process of having my 2010 Luke refinished. I bought it and decided after the fact that I didn't really care for the Luke Blue as much as I thought I did but loved the guitar itself. So it's out getting a new color.

It should be back in a couple of weeks. I researched refinishers and decided to go with Sims Custom Shop in Tennessee.

I'm planning on redoing the Axis and Petrucci eventually. He gets his paint from the same place as EBMM so I can go back and consider discontinued colors etc.

After what I went through with my Sub, I would under the following conditions only......

If you're doing it yourself, keep it very, very simple and be prepared to give up and paint it flat black. I know that I spent way more on materials in redoing my sub (3 times) than I should have. I love how it's finally come out, but if I were back at the beginning, I'd sell it and buy something I liked better (Al HH comes to mind...).

If the price is low enough, how about just play it as it is? Rather than putting $300 into a reasonable pro paint job, just run it in it's true, worn look.
