ok so after leaving my last band i started playing the guitar almost exclusively ... that's the cycle i go thru: in band - playing bass, done with band, play guitar excluseively and write songs, join new band with a handful of new tunes and play bass again

so anyways ... i was "found" by a local band on craigslist and im jammin with them tomorrow. im pretty stoked ... we'll see how it goes. i love playing guitar but i cant deny that the bass is "home". i mean, how could you not miss the growl of a sterling thru an svt classic (well Jon's got my Sterling so I guess an SR4 will have to do for tomorrow ;))

You're kidding - right?

You traitor. A bass player picking up a guitar is sacrilegious!

Than go ahead and crucify me :D
Although I'll never become a guitarist, nor play guitar in a band, just for fun

See that's how it starts. THEN you succumb to the Darkside.

yeah, it sounds weird, when I first wanted to play an instrument, I couldn't decide between guitar and bass. After some thinking, I went for the bass (what a good choice it was  ) but after a year or 2, I also wanted a guitar, it looked cool to play some bass, and then add some guitar with it. After all that time, I haven't played my guitar that much, but in the beginning of this year, I moved to a student room, home of me and my guitar, so I practice on guitar during the week. I just can't bring it up to bring my expensive bass stuff to my student room, I'm too afraid something will happen to it.

Anyway, I'm not good at guitar, but as long as I can play something decent, I'm happy, for I will always remember that the true powers is in the bass

... i started on bass but eventually baught myself a mexican tele cuz i got into ska and just felt compelled to play some skank (you can thank operation ivy & the suicide machines for that) ... no doubt ska basslines are sick to play but something about the "un da un da" guitar that got me goin ...

so ever since then (about 1995) ive been playing both about equally. I like writing songs and its sooooooo obvious which instrument i wrote the song on when you hear it. usually if i write on bass there's some crazy matt freedman-esque line or some really moody basslines goin on (a la the bass solo in Metallica's Orion).

my all-time musical hero is Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day ... he may not be the best guitarist ever or anything like that, and ya, the band gets ragged on by many, but as a 14 year old loner their bratty, "i dont care" type of songs really hit me (they were my gateway drug into punk-rock). so, he's been a huge influence on me and he plays guitar ... so some of my "guitar liking" is from there too

if you look in my sig youll see i have way more guitars than basses too. GAS sucks ... but it sucks worse when you're split evenly between a 4 and a 6 :)

so ya ... guitar rules. I dont kick ass on guitar but am good enough that I often get annoyed when I show a guitarist a riff during a jam session and i hear "i cant play that" ... nothing pisses me off more than that.

with all that said ... i am a bass player.

I'm a 6-stringer (5th generation) by genetic code, but I do have a F_nd_r P-bass which I use to lay bass lines for my demos...

..but it's been modified... it's got Seymour Duncan active pickups and a Kahler tremolo! (Yes, Kahler made bass tremolos for a brief period during their existence.)

I will now be silent and listen for exploding heads.

I'm nervously eyeing a right nice F*nder Strat I just restrung last night.

Ah, you guys know it's all in good fun.

Still, I don't think this Strat really belongs to me. Yeah, that's it - it's a LOANER.

Yes! Blame Ohio!

I don't know what to say about the Tele or the Martin, though.

I think I probably either bought or built both of those.

So there!

Lord Bongo plays guitar!

(And I actually did it IN PUBLIC for two years or so.)
