I'm about to start playing in a band.

I have a $quier Aff. Strat which is horrible by all means.

I need an electric guitar to play in a band with, and I don't think the Aff. can hold that much "pressure" Not to mention it fell down the guitar stand today (thanks to my bro  ) and I think the neck could be seriously damaged (apart from all the scracthes and similar stuff on it) so I wouldn't want to expose it to more damage by playing it actively etc. Selling it is out of the question 'cause

1. It's my first guitar ever - emotional bonding :D

2. it's in bad shape

3. no one would buy it :D

4. I'd feel to bad to take money for something like that :D

So the dillema is:

To buy a L€$ Paul knock-off in the range of 450$

Buy a used OLP MM1 for 200$ (missing in poll - mods please edit)

Or to continue to abuse the Squier for a few years until I get more money to buy a SUB1? 'Cause I seriously doubt I'll ever find a used one.

If I buy the knock-off, I'll continue saving money for the SUB1, don't worry! :D

I've played a lot of squiers and once set up they play very well.

Keep the Squier - practice your set up technique on it - get a good book on set ups e.g. the one by Dan Erlewine. Gig a lot save your dosh and wait for the right one to come along (ehh Foggy?) - and get yourself the EB of your dreams.

Junior,

I say get a proper setup for your existing guitar.
Because it's your first, you should keep it.
I do wish I still had mine.
Save up for the EBMM. It will be a Godly experience when you get it.
Hang in there and keep the faith! Never settle! :)
Good luck in your decision.

Eh there's one more thing

I'm in a position to buy a used OLP Axis for less than 200$! I'm thinking of buying it as a non-permanent solution, instead of the LP knock-off, then saving up for the SUB1...

What do you think?

BTW That option is missing in the poll. Could some of the mods edit that up. It seems I can't do it.

Save up for the guitar you really want. In the meantime, get your guitar set up properly, then proceed to play the paint off of it.

Yeah, but the thing is: If I'd buy the SUB1 in the future, after that I'd save for a LP knock-off, 'cause I really want one too! Even thought most of the people here would say that I don't need one when having a SUB1.

My goal is to have SUB1 (or a SM ofcourse :D), a LP knock-off, a Strat (the USA one preferably), an electric-acoustic (which I have - 1/5 of goal accomplished :D ) and a 12string electric-acoustic :D

I just don't know how to do the list...

First thing is first.

Electric guitar with 2 humbuckers

Then multieffect, then amp etc.

But I have to get the electric guitar first...

I've decided. When I get the money goin' I'll go to the store and try some LP knock-offs. And I'm not talking about crapy knock-offs. Something semi-pro. In the price range of 450$ - 500$. After that, the SUB1 is next on the list. If I change my mind 'till the money starts flowin', I'll go for the saving more for SUB1 version. Depends on what I will be lookin' for at the moment and the quality of the LP knock off's I'll run into.

If I had to choose between knock-off Les Paul and Olp Axis or Pet, I would go with Olp, if set up properly they are really nice guitars for the money

I bought a brand new SUB 1 for my nephew for Christmas at GC for $399.00. You should be able to find one in the price range you want to pay. I assume you are in the states?

I made the decision for the knock-off 'cause I'm really into Les Pauls these days and I'm sure I won't find a used SUB1 in the price range. Plus, when you buy new, you can choose the finish etc. But if I'd have to choose between a used SUB1 that I like and a good LPknock-off I'd take the SUB1.

Yes, I'm from Croatia.

I think you should save up for the Sub1 man! I mean you're gonna get a LP knock off for 450-500 bucks, you are not far away from the Sub1 in the first place. If you buy the LP knock off, then you are going to have to start from the beginning and that's going to take much much longer then you will probably have wanted.

You are right man! And it's a really tough choice. But the SUB1 is about 800$ here. Probably even more. Plus, I'm kinda stuck on LP's right now. Don't hold my word! I may change my mind 'till I get some money. Everything is possible! I might even change my mind and buy a 12 string acoustic-electric :D

Thanks for the advice, but Evo is a bleeedin' ugly guitar. I wouldn't touch it for a free SUB1 :D... okay I would :D

True the Evo is pretty ugly, but the reviews say it plays better than a real Les Paul, and if you can get a Czech one, it should be cheaper for you.

Of course, a real Ernie Ball blows them all away.

Now that I have a Petrucci I am going to sell off most of my guitars. I just don't play the other ones much anymore. I always reach for the Petrucci. It has better tone and better playability. I usually have to tune down half a step to be able to play, but with the Petrucci, standard tuning feels like it is a half step down for bends, yet it also has a little more tension so it stands up better to picking. I can actually play faster on the Petrucci while bending is just as easy.

Having any MusicMan (especially the SUB1 or ofcourse, the SM :D) is definetly one of my long-time goals. EBMM's are just so versatile guitars. Can suit for metal, rock, blues, whatever! ;) But I want to have other 'cause of the differences in looks any some other small things. But having 5 different EBMM's would be amazing (and expensive :D)
