But someone asked tonight what I said after Sterling gave me that Bongo, and I thought - I don't know. I must have said something. But I was in shock. So here is what I wish I would have said, if only I hadn't been so open-mouthed in awe.

"Defending the Bongo against all the naysayers was the best job I ever had, if somewhat frustrating at times. "Play the thing, you idiots!" was really all I should said - over and over and over. I should also thank those guys with the original humor - "Hey, a toilet seat! Har har har." Thank them because without their inane comments, I never would have become The Bongo Evangelist. They were what brought me here, in a way, at least in part. I should thank them over and over again for giving me the opportunity to somehow be noticed by Sterling Ball.

And Steve Barr - I should thank him, too! He yanked my Bongo chain early and often and with a gleam in his eye. Sometimes he was serious, but mostly it was a game Steve and I played for the benefit of our adoring public, heh heh, in our sinister rise to the top of the Internet Personality Heap.

Steve told me that a while back, by the way - that I was an Internet Personality. I said, "Maybe, maybe not, but if it's true, the pay sure sucks."

Hey! Today is payday for one Internet Personality!

So raise your glasses to those who thought Sterling was nuts.

This bass is very cool. This bass will be with me forever. Someday my four year old will tell his pals, "This is the bass that Sterling Ball gave my dad."

Even more important, Sterling Ball is a friend of mine. He has this sense of family, and once you're in, you know. I'm not at the level of the guys he's known forever, the Steve Lukathers and John Ferraros, but I'm in nonetheless. I'm sure of it because I woke his wife up one night - don't do that - and he still likes me.

The people at the company, too, treat me like I'm one of them, and that makes me feel pretty damned special. Scotty, Dan McPherson, Aziah, Derek Brooks, Beth and Dudley and Julie who answers the phone - and Jon who has helped me and many of you so many times....

I thank you, Sterling, and I thank all the guys who I suspect worked hard and at the last minute to make this bass a reality.

And to the forum members! Even the really annoying ones. I became a moderator almost by accident, because back in the old days it was mostly just Derek and Jon trying to handle things - and they had real jobs, too. If I weren't a moderator at the EBMM Forum, I don't think I'd be here, and I guess it stands to reason that if you people weren't so damned rabid about these basses and guitars, there wouldn't be a need for moderators.

So to you, the rabid forumites - thank you, too.

Sterling Ball - you rock. Thank you, America! Goodnight!"

There. That is what I would said if I were really smart.

Well done, LB! But, you know, your initial reaction when BP handed you the Bongo was priceless, and you can not reinvent that!

Enjoy!

Nosirree, you are absolutely correct, and although there are things I wish I remembered more clearly, I surely wouldn't change a thing. And I should mention that although I did drink as much as anyone when drinking was the thing to do, it wasn't the alcohol, generally, that caused me to forget things - it was sensory overload.

Well, okay, back at Jon and Lisa's house Saturday night - now THAT was the alcohol, but I blame Luke and Biff and the backstage crowd for being, ahem, bad influences.

Dang, boys. We sure had fun.

eat me I'm an apple

I know you as well as anyone here, and I have to say that I've never considered eating one of you a day in order to keep the doctor at bay.

That probably would have been great footage to catch, but as BP said...

..."what goes on the road, stays on the road"...or words to that effect.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but they CLOSED THE BAR. Or at least they tried to, as I recall....I think Biff was served, heh heh.

But the vodka was gone as of midnight, like we were in some odd Cinderella story, and then we were left staring at that bottle of Patron that was on the table.

What were we supposed to do? I ask you.

I think I know what you did outside, and I think I know it was on a chair or something, too.

Or maybe it was a raccoon, my memory goes fuzzy after I annoyed Tony Levin, who was trying his best (and he was successful, I might add) to upload photos of the All Star Jam to his website.

...yup...that's about the time things started getting "fuzzy" for me too and when I ran out of disc space on my camera quite luckily as it turned out I must say too.

The best part of that scenario is that those events were but the kickoff to the Poophead Tour 05 which went on for 5 more cities and two more weeks after that evening just like it and I made it back across state lines unarrested.

I am told that there are backstage photos, but I am not at liberty to discuss such things, were they to exist, and I'm not saying they do.

But let's just say that the Patron was the problem. And that, as far as I know, Biff was responsible for it being there. So any embarrassing events that may or may not have occurred, and I'm not saying there were any, mind you, must be HIS fault.

Biff! All that stuff in SLO, dude? It was you, baby, that drove the bus. And I still couldn't be happier to have been a part of it.

Right, Steebo? Since we're the only ones awake, maybe.

Well said Jack, Just wanted you let you know that when I first saw the Bongo at NAMM 2003 I was one of the ones that gasped in horror at the way it looked.I thought to myself that there was no way that I was ever going to play one of those funny looking basses. Now almost 3 years later I have SERIOUS G.A.S. for a Bongo :( Too bad I just bought a new SR4 only a month ago.I might have to wait another year to fulfilll my desire for a Bongo.Good Job Man! :D

To clear things up. Lucious and I left to the gentile confines of the Fun Ranch. jack was laughing and crying at the same time, The Dude was "throwing up in his mouth a little"
Jon was starting to look like a Krispy Kreme, and Blair was trying to get the bar reopened.

All the joking aside, I know that many of you out there are tired of hearing about the event, but it really was great for all involved. The gays and gals at the factory are still really excited and proud to have been able to host you "catsorino's: as luke would say.

My only regret is for those 45 of you that signed up and no showed.....P.S. we know who you are but dont hold grudges.....
