I was at a band night in a pub in town last night. They had a solo guy on acoustic guitar and 2 bands. The bass players in both bands were playing F**d*r J**z basses. Anyway, I had a talk with both these guys after the show. They had both been playing about 20 years and neither had ever played a Musicman bass. This is a very similar story to my own. I couldn't hold back. I told them how great these basses are and that they HAD to get to the local music shop and try one out.

I've converted a few to MM basses. The most memorable was the young kid who replaced me in my band when I left Australia. He was playing a Washburn through a Fartke (or Harshke, take your pick) rig when he auditioned for the band, and after he got the job and came along to my last couple of gigs, he went and bought a 400w tube head and a quad box from a local custom amp builder, and ordered a Bongo.

In some cultures, a 2nd 'wife' is never disposed of because she can be quite comfortable in certain situations, and she helps keep the 1st and subsequent wives in perspective.
In my situation, a ***der keeps my fingers and ears in shape for the SR5s; and I may never have really appreciated MM basses if I hadn't ever played with others first.

Just keep some noseplugs and a good witchdoctor on standby for the first 1 or 2

I now have some rather interesting images in my head of Jack lynching passers-by in the street in the manner of an enthusiastic (or slightly scary) preacher...

Makes for entertaining viewing! :p

Note to Jack - "conversion" is not to include keeping people in headlocks until they agree to what you want :)

I was playing my black SR at a gig last night at an expat and hooker bar when a Brit fellow came over to chat in between sets. He looked late 40'ish and claimed to be a bass player, and plays a Yamaha Nathan East and a 6 string Cort. The guy compliments me on my sound and says that my bass really cut through the mix in the first set, and he's really liking the band. So we talk crap about some of our songs for a few minutes while watching some of the LBFM's who are looking for a couple of hours employment to put food on the table for their younger brothers and sisters. And then, the guy says to me "That Fender sounds great, but I don't like the modifications you've made to it". So, I tell him to pick up his beer and follow me, and we walk over to the stage, where I proceed to give him a 90 second history of Musicman. By this time the guy's eyes are bulging and he's starting to salivate. I could tell he wanted to play the Stingray, so I hand it to him and say "here, have a go". He does a little bit of guitar shop wanking and says "wow, this would be great for slapping". I didn't say a word and put the bass back on the stand and said "hey, you having another beer?" and headed to the bar. As we were walking to the bar he turned his head two or three times to take another look at the Stingray. I'm thinking he'll be in the market for a EBMM pretty soon.

Great job Mark!

Maybe you should get in touch with Steebo and be "Vintage Bass Trading Co. - Far East Division".

Yes! And instead of licking basses, Mark could pose for a photo of him buffing the instrument with one of his shirts! :D

Think of the Mojo that such a process would impart!
