Im sure many of you have faced this delima...

My very first EBMM was a 20th Anniversary and Just loved it... UNTIL.... I received my Silo Special. I can play the heck out of that guitar for hours on end and find myself not playing my 20th. I pulled the 20th out of the case for the first time in 3 months last night and played it for 5 minutes and went back to my Silo Special.

I like the HH of the 20th but for some reason the SS just feels better to me... if it were you would you sell the 20th and fund a second SS and outfit it with HH or hold onto the 20th?

I have had that 'problem' before also. What I would do is to put the guitar away. If I don't even think about it for a while and don't bother to take it out to play, it is time for the guitar to go.

At the moment I'm hardly ever playing my JP6, because I like my other balls better. Not sure about selling yet though..

Yeah that's where I'm at... The guitar was in the case unplaced for 3 months right next to my silo special and I always grab my SS. It's time to put it away and see where it goes...

Yeh but a good set up will have you playing it again. I sometimes set up 1 of my guitars so it is a bit harder to play then after some time head back to the easy guitar-----then set up the hard guitar so it plays about the same as the other. A bit like guitar fitness training!!!

Good luck.....i would love a 20th.

Guitars that you don't play, not even after deliberately taking them out for a spin to find out why, needs to be sold.

Most of the time it ends up with somebody who's totally gaga about that particular one, too.

Then there is the guy currently sitting on what could be your new squeeze and hating it. Why put him through that trouble? Can as well get that axe.

Holding on to it doesn't buy anybody anything.

The only problem I see with your plan is that you blindly assume you will like a second SS as much as the first. Guitars have strong individuality, that might not work out.

This is why two guitars is the perfect number for me. One to compliment the other and I am set. If you are not bonding with it then move it to get one that you will.

Same thing happened to me when I had the 20th Silo and the SS. I would always go for the SS as well. I did enjoy playing the 20th, but the SS just felt better overall. Now I have my Y2D, and it does everything I need it to. I've been thinking of what guitar to get as a second one, but all I come up with is another Y2D haha.

If you dont play the instrument, I think it's pointless to keep it around. Maybe as an investment, but I think they are meant to be played. So I would definitely get another SS and put some other pickups in there for variety.

keep your eyes peeled... one might show up on the FS thread LOL

I love the 20th... just trying to figure out what's going to happen... i would love a figured top silo special or something unique like my 20th... i've been thinking alot about the Dargie Series and if i could land a D1 or D2 i'd probably sell the 20th in a heart beat.

I think we all go thru that. I have one guitar (25th Ann) that, although it is incredible in everyway, the neck doesn't work for me. I go back and forth selling it and buying something else.

Good luck sir -

Same here except that I love all the EBMM I have now and that my main guitar is the 25th. Having that much guitar is indeed a luxury and sometimes I think that I should part with a few but i just can't do it.

I have both a 20th and a Silo Special, and I am definitely keeping both. They are similar in playability but different in sound. At times I find myself favoring one over the other, but both are definitely serviceable for just about whatever I am playing. I have owned a few other Music Man guitars that were good, but didn't fit my playing as well. The Silhouettes are simply the best IMO.

Remember the 20th is a bit of a rare bird, so if you sell it off, chances are you will never see one again. Maybe trying a set of new pickups first before moving on.

I have a rule of thumb with guitars - if its not being played or used in some capacity its sold.

I have has countless guitars over the years, yet ones I have now I would never part with. I say move on and get what you really want.

I guess everyone owning multiple guitars has gone through that and I certainly know exactly how you feel...I keep coming back to the same 3-4 guitars for just about every sound I have in my head...and sometimes find myself thinking about selling a few that don't get much playtime. In fact, this very thread made me rethink and list two of mine in the fs thread, not because I don't like them (in fact it's the exact opposite!) but because I feel so comfortable with my "go to" guitars!

So, as beautiful and great as the 20th Silhouette is...if you don't enjoy it as much as your Silo Spec you may be happier with another guitar...

Hey Peter, I totally get how you feel, I really do, but I guess I'm on the other side of this metaphorical river. I'm having a hard time justifying keeping my Silo Spec, because I absolutely love it, but its not the machine that "moves" me (if you will) and also considering other financial needs at the moment. If I didnt have the financial pressures to part with it, I'd totally keep it, but ya know how it goes.

I grew up loving musicians that practically all used single coil strat style set ups. SRV (my hero), Clapton, Gilmour, Beck, Hendrix and Eric Johnson, and I love playing my Silo Spec to get those tones, but its just not the tone that inspires my own sound. I absolutely dig Lincoln Brewster's tone, but I don't really get so exciting playing with that tone, if that makes any sense.

I love love love my 25th, maybe I'm just a humbucker guy, but this axe seriously rocks, and the neck pup on series, is such a warm, woody, musical combo that drives me nuts, and keeps me playing again and again. My silo spec sits in the case 90% of the time, and thats not a knock on the axe but its just not whats doing "it" for me musically.

I have another one coming in, and it'll pretty much be the deciding factor of me keeping the silo spec or not (as its another humbucker axe) but this torn feeling does stink.

Best of luck man.

Don't think I'd ever sell any of my EBMM or SBMM axes! I have other guitars also that just has been on the studio walls or stands for a year or so even that I'll never part with. More so because of a personal relationship I've had with every piece (ie:recorded albums with, album covers, gifts from loved ones etc) everything holds its own soul. I recently sold off a 5 string Ibanez that was pretty darn good but I guess cause there was no connection & I'm not much of a bass player but I hope you get what I mean. :)

Yeah- I have an ESP Ec series that was given to me by my parents right before I got my 20th. I used it maybe twice for a youth worship service and that was it. I have it at my parents house but have no intentions to play it or sell it because it was a gift.

I struggle with the selling of the 20th because I know it's an incredible guitar and fulfills that thicker tone range I can't get with a silo spec SSS. So the struggle is to keep it and have it there for the few times I need it or replace it with a silo spec and make it and HH.
It a journey
