This is a Q&A Session with Incubus' Mike Einziger. The link directly leads you to this question about signature models that caught my ear.
Take a look at it and tell me how many of you agree with me when I say: this wouldn't be the case with Music Man. Mike has been using Albert Lee's lately, for those who didn't know.

I think it would be great if someone changed his mind about it... if you get me.

I am not familiar with Incubus at all but he seems like a cool guy. The interviewer asked him what he looks for in a guitar and if would he like his own sig. He basically go ons to say that he likes a guitar that will hold its tuning and that he was using Squires on the road but they are better for studio use as they kept slipping. He then goes on to say that he has been approached for a sig but that companies want to cut corners and he does not want his name on a guitar that is a cheap copy of what he plays.

Uhm he did say he was using Squires on the road? What am I missing here lol.

Certainly wouldn't be the case with EBMMs as BP has stated that there's pretty much a super low chance for a signature model in production. mike E is a high profile player and I'm sure Ed been approached by quite a few companies regarding guitars.

Love his work

His tone and style is truly inspirational! The way he times his delays and volume swells and the way he utilizes all his effects into his playing has had a pretty big influence on my style.

I think he would be an awesome addition to the Ball family of artists....but that's not for me to decide. I would definitely be interested in an EBMM Mark Einziger model if it ever came to that.

Yeah, Squier's are... cheap. Haha, no way around that one.

haha yeah, the Squier topic is kinda ironic, but what I think he refers to is that companies try to degrade the features he has specified on the guitar to commercialize it even more, he's probably not comfortable with the fact that people would buy a guitar that is supposedly played by him when actually, it has been changed. The deceit is what he's talking about, I think.

Yea I think there are bunch of manufacturers that cut corners on the sig models to make them more available to the public. Of course we know that that is NOT the case with EBMM. BP said so himself he stands behind that and I've heard many times over and over from Steve Morse, Lukather and JP that they can pick their sig models from a store stock and it is exactly the same as they get.

A good recent example of trying to cut some corners was with I****z re-issuing the Andy Timmons model. He said so himself in interviews that they asked him they can cut some corners to make it more affordable, but he insisted that it has to be exactly to HIS specs otherwise it is pointless and not a true representation of the guitar he plays.

I think this is what Mark was probably referring to with whatever companies approached him. And I'm most certain EBMM was not one of them.

Yeah, if its anything, its usually the other way around. Artists usually go to to EBMM. BP has stated before that he's all open for making tools for artists, but a sig model is a totally different beast and I doubt we will see another one. Not for a while anyways.
