Does anyone know if you get customs charges on low price items. By low I mean circa £150. I want a new TC Electronic Nova Drive to match up with my G System and they seem to have run out in the UK. Even with postgage from US it's still considerably cheaper.

Haha...thanks Smelly

I just decided to email in shortly after my op, I never expected to win the prize. First I heard was from the forum guys who had obviously picked up their September Guitarist issue early ! Anyway my prize arrived today, Blackstar HT Dual. A really great pedal , I know, because I already have one :D I'll put it up on Ebay and get myself a Nova drive which interacts with the G system.

I found a seller in the US who advertises a shipping price which includes a statement 'Reduced custom fees, get through customs with little or no taxes or fees'....So how does that work ? anyone know ?

i'd be wary of that offer. the only way they could make it work was if they signed the customs paper work at their end to say it was a gift from a relative. i only know as i've done that in the past. otherwise it will get duty added to it at uk customs.

wonderdog might be able to confirm, but providing false info on a customs for in the US is a felony?? - It's mail fraud (So I was told when I tried to haggle values one time from a seller in chicago ;-)) -

I don't think anything would happen to you, other than you'll only be able to insure it for what's on the green slip!

The customs charges are calculated from the declared value on the customs paperwork. I have been sent guitars with the wrong value declared, but you run the risk of it not being insured if it goes missing (or only insured to the declared value)
