Played the Bongo for the first time in a band practice

I described the practice in another thread and won't waste bandwidth here. Let me just say it exceeded my expectations. While I have a long way to go to understand how to control this instrument, I wanted to express my appreciation to everyone on the forum for the helpful posts but especially Big Poppa (whom I've coined the semi diety - or SDBP for short :D ), Dudley and the folks at Musicman and BMW.

Thanks SDBP for having the determination to make an instrument that is far ahead of the standard fare in terms of design for comfort, control and general innovation. The 18V preamp kicks, the bass looks great (this is saying a lot as I did not like the looks of it when it first came out), is made well but mainly just sounds great.

I bought my Bongo5HHp used and will without a doubt recommend this instrument to anyone in the market for a great bass that excels in the "bass" tone department. Used they are fantastic deals imho. I won't comment on buying them new as I am not so blessed with cash at the moment.

I know this is a butt kissing thread which I am loathe to create but I'm inspired after a great practice and couldn't resist. Yes, I see the light now

You're preachin to the choir here Mr. Bacon. How else can you explain someone buying 4 Bongos in an eight month period with two more on order, huh?huh? My wife would like an answer please! :rolleyes:

another great gig

Played in a worship band at church today. This was with flats on the Bongo too (bovine will be proud). I am taking a break so this was the last time for a while.

I played the Bongo and left everyone with the best tone I've ever had. I'm gonna miss playing with them but I want to spend more time with the family. I'll be subbing when I've available (in fact another worship leader came to recruit me specifically, so I was glad he heard the Bongo. Unfortunately I told him I couldn't do his gig either)

Several people commented on the bass. Many in the audience gave the quiet approval of the overall sound - don't ask how I can tell, its just an instinct thing that I can't describe. Something about going through massive subwoofers with a B string and seeing people get into the music. Going from a ballad with the whole congregation singing, song ends with lights low, dead (not awkward) silence, rocking song starts and several yelps from the crowd, yelps of approval throughout the song with the congregation almost drowning us out with singing at times... it was one of those rare occurances that doesn't happen as often as I'd like.

I really appreciate that this bass was built. This is the best bass I have ever tried, owned and heard.

I suppose you'll have to try get used to that sort of reaction... If you're using a bongo, you'll be experiencing it more frequently!

A large church sound system with 18" subs, & a Bongo 5 with flats, is a beautiful thing brother!:D
