Just wondering if there are some favorite X-mas cd's people always enjoy listening to?

My favorite is MERRY AXEMAS. Steve Vai put it out and it features a different guitarist for each song.

My favorites on the cd are the cuts by Steve MORSE (Joy), Vai (peanuts theme), and eric johnson (first noel)

Agree, Jon.

In fact, last time steve morse and the dregs played in san diego (jan 2003), Gary Hoey opened for him. He's a real talent.

my fav

there's a guy named Hilary Stagg who plays electric harp. He's got a Cd called "Winter Magic" which is full of Christmas tunes.. it's got to be the most beautiful stuff you've ever heard. I have the Merry Axemas (and Merry Axemas volume 2) which are good.. but you have to find the Hilary Stagg album.

I think it might be out of print, but here's what I can tell you from my disc (which I bought almost 10 years ago).

It was on a label called Real Music (although he's an artist you'd likely find on Windham Hill or Magna Carta these days). The spine of the disc has the number RM1825. The barcode has a tiny 0 (zero) on the left, then the digits 4628-61825-2 and then a small 8 on the right.

The copyright is 1995.

I urge you to find a copy of this disc and I guarantee you'll listen to it every year during the holidays. Also check out "Dream Spiral" by the same artist for some of his non-holiday work.

Edit: I see that amazon/cd now/borders have a few copies of this disc available.
Somebody snap them up! The sellers are claiming that it's rare and out of print. You can listen to some clips there, or at Cd Universe (but they mis-keyed the title as "Winter Music").

Erm...as Keith knows, I started listening to Merry Axemas in September/October  :D

Though I prefer Merry Axemas 2. The Lukather track is brilliant and love the Steve Stevens, John Sykes and Trevor Rabin tracks too. In fact, the Steve Stevens track is great for confusing the hell out of people :D

Also dug out Lukather's Santamental CD again, and jdouglee's Potato Salad CD arrived in the post yesterday :D

I', surrounded by the sounds of Luke's....if only mine would arrive *drums fingers and waits*

Ali,

Your luke is probably being painted a vintage sunbursty, luke bluish, whiteish, black sparkle, carbon blue combo right now.

...that's not a bad idea ;)

Actually I've sent EBMM a custom colour order this time. I have to provide them with the materials though, so I'm, sending 327 pink highlighter pens in the post...hope Christmas doesn't hold them up ;)

Merry Axemas 1 & 2 gets lotsa spins from me. I'm particularly fond of the tracks from Luke, Zakk Wylde, Robin Trower, and Steve Vai. Trower's track just gives me goosebumps every listen, and Vai's reading of "Christmastime is Here" is just precious and all the more incentive for me to finally pick up that awesome Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown album once and for all...

Also occasionally listening to a buncha freebie MP3s that I've downloaded from Amazon.com...some good, other's not so great. Hey, ya get what ya pay for! ;)

I somehow managed to acquire a couple of those cheezy Mannheim Steamroller CDs and used them to test out my new surround sound system - worked great for irking my neighbors who live above and below me and have been making all kindsa unbearable noise over the past year! :D

(BTW, in case you folks didn't know, Trans Siberian Orchestra is actually the Florida metal band Savatage....I kid you not!)

Got to go with any of the Ho Ho Hoey discs by Gary Hoey.

Also, the Brian Setzer Orchestra has a pretty cool Xmas disc - Boogie Woogie Christmas.
