Hello everyone

I'm a new guy on forum here and I own a couple of MM guitars.
One is SUB1 and other is Silhouette Special.

I bought SUB1 from the dealer and Silhouette privatelly.

I modified electronics on both guitar slightly to give me more options.

SUB1 comes originally with 2 humbuckers and I just split the coils on both of the pickups and I've put pearloid pickguard instead. To me this is very
universal guitar now with those changes.

Silhouette came to me with silent system disconnected and non stock HSS pickups.
I used 2 single coils, in neck (Kinman Hx); middle (Fender vintage noiseless) and Dimarzio Norton with split coil in the bridge position.

I haven't connected silent system back to guitar coz I can't find right diagram on the net and I'm not sure if it would help me with my pickups!!??

1. What is your experience with Silhouette specials and their silent systems ..with them and without?

2. Can someone please send me a REAL diagram (from the back side of the pickguard) coz the one on the Ernie Ball site is just a block diagram..I'd like to get diagram like one from the Seymour Duncan web site where you can really see color of the wires and where each one of them is connected!?

3. Also, the serial number is 96912...when is it made, is it in 1996?

Regards

FYI - that is a Silhouette Special, not a Silhouette. The very earliest ones had a "Silhouette" headstock decal. It's probably from 1996, but I don't think you can get the date from the serial number like you from a Fender.

There are couple of guys here on the forum who are really knowledgeable about the Silent Circuit - I remember someone added one to their Steve Morse signature. You might repost asking for help hooking up the silent circuit.

Thanks John C, but I have wrote that I have a Silhouette Special in my description...I just wrote shortly Silhouette after that.. coz I'm lazy!

Sorry deekayman - I was a lazy reader and just missed the "Silhouette Special" in the first line.

I think either tommyindelaware or beej has experience in adding the Silent Circuit to guitars that normally don't have them; you might reach out to them about hooking it up. The Silo Specials I had were both s/s/s models so the Silent Circuit worked on all 3 pickups (positions 1, 3 and 5; the middle pickup is reverse-wound so it was already hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4). However, on the h/s/s models the Silent Circuit is only active on position 1 (neck pickup only) and that is the only position where you get a single coil by itself. On the factory wiring positon 3 is actually the front coil of the bridge humbucker and the neck pickup in parallel wiring instead of the standard Strat position of the middle pickup by itself.

No worries John...I'll have a look if those guys are willing to share their knowledge.

Yeah I've seen Ernie Ball diagram on wiring but mine is wired like a strat (like I said I bought it without silentcircuit and I've put the pups in it).

I don't mind the way it is wired now ...but I'd like to know if the silent circuit schematics is available ..in case I want to put it back together.

Keep in mind that the Kinmann PUs are already noise cancelling - in short, you'd be adding noise with the silent circuit.

Cheers

Hi Pablo

That's what I was thinking but anyway it would be nice to have that diagram handy!
Obviously previous owner didn't like silent circuit either or he didn't have much benefit out of it!

One thing what I love about Seymour Duncan web site...they're really went one step ahead with all those diagrams and wiring options...it helps to find what you need at any time.

I was hoping to find a better diagram for my EBMM SS coz
I have that question on my head.

It's interesting that there's nobody yet with DOB answer for my guitar!??

Thanks for your input.

psst John I think you mean neck pickup by itself is position 5? EB numbers the coils/positions starting from the bridge and moving towards the neck.

Here is the diagram showing all the coils and switching positions!

By the way, nice looking SiloSpecial!

Pete,

No, I just had it reversed - what I was calling "position 5" was the bridge by itself when I should have called that "position 1" as EBMM does on the sheets. I guess I've always numbered the 5-way from front to back instead of back to front.
