Have two Sterlings...
Bass one: F03678 (bought last year new)
Bass two: F04704 (just bought this one used)
Wondered if the 4704 was newer?

Also, bought the second one hoping to create a little mellower tone. (has rosewood fingerboard). Still pretty "hot". Anything else I can do? I may put flat wounds on it.

One other thing, neck not quite as snug agains top of cavity, what to do as this is causing the G string to pull off fingerboard sometimes?

Thanks for the help.

Part of the difficulty regarding tone is that everyone's version of "mellow" or "hot" can be different, so I'm not sure of what you are looking for.

If the tone seems to bright, try working with the tone controls. Flat wounds will also help. If it seems louder than the other, try adjusting the distance between the pickup and the strings.

Regarding the neck, it may not be sitting straight in the neck pocket. Make sure the low E and G strings are equal distances from the edge of the fingerboard. If not, give us a call. 800-543-2255. Ask for repairs.

Thanks,
Greg
