I just bought a new Sterling SUB Ray 5 in the walnut satin finish and am waiting for it.

I play in a working band and use a Musicman SR5 (USA made) as my primary bass (and a couple of jazz basses). I bought the Ray5 to be for different turnings we use playing live and it looked like a killer deal for a bar battle axe.

My questions about it are about the pickup on it: how does it compare to the SR5 pickup, and what kind of quality it is. I am not opposed to swap out the pickup, but I just want to know any particulars about it if anyone knows anything about it.

Magnet type, impedance, voicing, what current MM pickups match it,...

Any good info is appreciated!

Don't know about the bass you bought, but one useful piece of info
concerning your qustion is that it doesn't matter "what current MM
pickups match it, ..." cuz EBMM does not sell PUs as parts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have used the Basslines "MM" PU, *with* the matching EQ-pre and
found it excellent, however different from the native EBMM PU. That I
had the matching EQ-pre is significant. Those who've tried alternative
PUs hooked to existing EBMM original electronics have been know to
switch back due to weird tonal mismach. This *may* also be true of
your electronics [or not].
