When i plug my cord into the input jack of my stingray I many times get static and sometimes the sound completely goes out and disconnects. I think there's something wrong with my input jack as this happens alot when I'm using my amp and just recently I got a recording interface and it doesn't connect at all.

Any recommendations on where I should send it? I think I'm heading over to guitar center to see if they can do a quick fix but have any of you guys experienced this problem? Also is there anyway I can fix it on my own since it doesn't seem like all that complicated of a problem? I'm 100% sure its my fault that its messed up but yeah, its kinda frustrating :(

Depending on on the age of the jack the contacts might be dirty. Contact cleaner on a q-tip might clean it. It's also a good trick to use on any older bass.

Well its from 2005 so it can't be that old or dirty. I opened up the jack to clean out any dust but didnt find any other problems from the exterior. I think somethings broken inside. Sometimes when im plugged into my amp i have to fiddle around with the input jack until it works. Maybe a part inside is loose?

If you are getting this problem on any cord(?)/lead/cable you use, and with more than one amp, then the input jack seems to be the culprit. Easy to fix if you are handy with a soldering iron and graduated at least 6th grade.

monster cables have slightly bigger jack that at times move the input jacks contacts. call eb customer service or your local repair guy and bring the cord.

Yup on both above - I had a jack in a non-EBMM bass that got stretched by a Monster Cable and have not used them since. Try another cord before tearing into the bass - it could be just a bad cord.

If it does the same thing with a different cord, then a jack is an easy fix with a soldering iron. If you're not comfortable with this, any decent music store repair shop can do this for you.

If we're talking about the deep panel (Switchcraft-style as shown below) jack found in many instruments, Monster Cables plugs effectively wear them out. The inside on the barrel is plated brass, which is softer than the plug. Over time, the too-large plug abrades the barrel and contacts to the point that connection becomes a problem.

Replacement is really the only way to go to know that the issue is resolved.

This is the above jack with the long ground lug shortened, as required by the installation in another bass I own.

It is possible that the metal connector inside the jack is just bent. A couple of years ago my ray slipped of a stand with a patch cord plugged in. The patch cord impacted the floor which bent the connector. I took it to a guy and it was a 15 second fix, free of charge.

I hope the problem isn't worse than that.
