Has anyone ever tried installing a locking nut onto an Axis Super Sport? I have an Axis SS that has some tuning stability issues as well. This might really alleviate some stress. Stretching strings, beating the tremolo, and Big Bends Nut Sauce just ain't cutting it. The R2 Chrome would fit with a little chiseling. :(

Any opinions?

There are some problems with installing a locking nut with a non-Floyd Rose type bridge. First, the strings don't lock into the bridge, which means they can shift under tremolo use just like a regular trem. Once they are out of tune, you don't have fine tuners to bring it back into tune. I'd suggest just getting your nut re-cut or filed to fit your gauge of strings.

I would try getting a professional setup. Fret dressing, truss rod, nut re-cut or even new if need be. This is a huge operation and can have numerous failures. And even worse it might not fix your problem let alone make it worse.

The biggest issue is this:

You cannot just install a locking nut - you need to be able to tune the guitar with the nut locked - hence the fine-tuners on a Floyd type trem.

So, do not install a locking nut unless you're installing the whole system...simple as that.

I would vote for a new nut and graphite saddles. Cutting a new nut is a bit tricky. I bought a set of files and I burned through a half dozen nuts before I started to get good at cutting a nut. The EBMM nuts come two to a pack and customer service will sell them to you right over the phone. They are curved appropriately for the the 10 inch radius nut slot.

My 2 cents.

Alright. The idea is already history. I won't have it butchered. It's too scary of a thought. I need to figure out the tuning thing though.

After Christmas for sure AND after I get my stormtrooper costume.

Thanks for all the input guys. You rule.
