So I checked out my favorite local shops site, and saw they had a Luke3. I got there-they actually had 2. One HH and one HSS. I was there for the HH, and as fate would have it-it followed me home. Only one odd thing about it-the bridge pickup is reversed. The screw coil is closer to the neck. I havent seen another picture of one like that, so I guess the question is, is there some intent there, or was it just a QC oops. Not a big deal to flip it next string change-as long as the wire isnt close cut. Anyone else seen this? Purchased from the music gallery in highland park IL in case anyone is looking for an HSS sitting pretty.

Maybe someone did the "Gary Moore" mod to it just to see. Luke had his Neck pup reversed If I recall correctly.

Interesting. Doing that splits the coils the "other" way. I did that on purpose on an HSS guitar to get a mid/bridge end combo and liked it a lot.

I dont think it makes much difference. Never been a dimarzio fan and after a few hours it sounded a but too treble heavy for me. I had a set of suhr DA pups laying around which oddly enough have short triangular based legs. I figured if I was going to remove the strings, I may as well mess with the pups at the same time.
So I open up the back and check out the wiring. After converting Dimarzio colors to Suhr(same as duncan) I noticed the neck pup wired...not even backwards, more like inside out. So I planned out how to do that with the Suhrs, but after noticing that the pups were the same polarity and not wanted to remove the cover from the Suhr, I just wired them both straight up. Seems to work like a charm. No low volume phase issues. Two other small hurdles. The screws are longer on the Suhr and the Dims, so I had to make a small hole for the screw on each end of the cavity. Very small, but without it the whole pup titled towards the bridge. After that-perfect/legs were the same length. The bridge pup legs are a little longer on the Dim, so I had to put a rubber gromet thingy on each screw and that set up perfectly as well. Pretty minor tweaks. I much prefer the overall tone with the Suhrs. Funny, I sold a HSS suhr a month or so ago because I can't seem to deal with that setup. I've always loved the rosewood neck on the Al, but not the body shape-so the LukeIII with the Suhr pups so far is the perfect storm of a few different guitars, for me anyway.

So you thought the stock pups were too treble heavy? I had a similar impression of the bridge humbucker when I test drove the HSS. The singles sounded great though. That guitar must scream now with the Aldrich humbuckers! Suhr make great pickups...I have a DSH+ and DSV in my Morse Y2D and they sound amazing. Are the DA humbuckers plain black or also have the chrome covers? If they are the standard black, would you mind posting a pic? I always wanted to see the LIII without the chrome covers.

Might be a point of reference-the rest of my guitars are les pauls ;)

The Suhrs are chrome at the moment. I need to find the box and see if they are double black under the hood. Had the same thing with the JP6 I had a while back.

The Suhrs are a pretty nice pup for the dollars. They are more...I guess I'd go with warm, vocal...dunno. Words suck at describing sounds. At least my words do. I liked them in my LPs as well, but I went back to sheptones-more of a vintage feel.
