Interesting EBMM eBay find

Hey guys, take a look at this supposed EBMM on eBay:

Lots of crazy hardware, weird logo, neckplate, color and its serial # is stamped on the back of the headstock. Is it an early version of the Silhouette or a mish-mosh of EBMM and non-EBmm parts?

That case looks right and the serial # could be EBMM.

I agree, although it is a cool color, almost has that seafoam green look to it !!

Something about the logo on the headstock looks funny I think I'm with Jon here.

I'm going to go out on a very long limb here just for fun and say it's legit. The first Silouettes were in 85 right? A lot of things have changed since then and I would think there is some chance it's real. The six bolt neck joint, old school logo, flamed, finished neck, usual truss rod adjustment.... I'm thinking that I've seen those tuners on quite a few vintage MMs too but I'm going off vague memory there.

There are things that definately throw up red flags too that I think have been mentioned, but I'll be very interested to hear Dudley's report. If he says it's a fake, there is no question that it is.

This is cool though... one way or the other we will soon know that much more about Music Mans than we do today.

I'm gonna go with mesavox here.

It's got enough characteristics of a Silhouette that I'm going to say it is one. If not, someone sure went to a lot of trouble to fake it.

This one is a tough call; like others I will defer to Dudley. The trem looks fine to me; that is what was used on the early (pre EVH/Floyd Rose) Silhouettes; I've seen a few and played one in NYC and one here in Louisville circa 1989/90. The plain neck plate, serial number and odd logo don't quite fit for me, but I've never seen a really early Silo in person. I also find it odd that all the hardware is gold except the string lock for the trem (unless that is just a bad picture).

I love my EBMM Silo Special as much as anyone loves their EBMM guitars, but I just don't think someone would go to the extent of building such a detailed forgery of an early Silhouette. While the Sting Ray basses had remained popular through the transition from MM to EBMM, the guitars were really kind of "underground" among the ranks of nice instruments until EVH came on board as an endorser in 1991.

That is an early Silhouette with the Schaller hardware and pickups. It would have to be one of the first two years of production - probably the first with that logo - but it's genuine.

No, I don't think Dudley lurks here. We are super busy, and I haven't had a chance to get with Dudley on this.

Look, there's no need to bother Dudley or anyone else about this. There's absolutely nothing unusual about that guitar at all. It is a bog-standard, totally stock, 100% 1985 or 1986 Silhouette. Guitarist magazine did a comparison between the original and new Silhouettes in their June 2003 issue, and they picture a 1986 example identical to this except in color. No mystery. No ifs, ands, buts or maybes. This is a Silhouette. Period. End of issue...

I think JimiD is right on this one. He knows about as much of these guitars to be a resident expert. I really don't think anyone would fake a Silo and go to the extremes to make it look like this. I would fake an EVH or Pet for more $$$.....I happen to like the look myself. Not only that, the pawn shop putting it on sale doesn't know the axe has 3 singles, not humbuckers..........
