Found this pic the other day and thought it was pretty interesting, what's the scoop on this guitar ?? It's a Music Man Sabre.

Yup I agree. I really latched on to the MM design when I saw Robbie McIntosh play a white silo when he was with wings. I remember watching the video, and it was the first guitar I was really struck with since I'd got into playing and wanted Brian Mays guitar ( I was only like 14 at the time!). Then I remember seeing Steve Morse on the cover of guitarist magazine in around '91 and there it was again. More than anything, for some reason, it was the headstock. It just looked so refined and classy. I think it may be because everything was getting quite pointy around then. So, of course, when JP came on board I was just over come with intense curiosity. DT were playing in Manchester and JP had his MM proto. He'd litterally only just got it for the tour. So much so that he had to use his Ibo's for Home and Dance of eternity as he had no MM backups yet! It was like an added bonus for all us guitarists. Wanting to see them perform Scenes From a Memory all the way through, plus getting a peek at this new guitar. More so for me even because I knew I liked the look of MM guitars. I even remember how much I liked James Stelfox's (I'm such a name dropper!) stingray when he'd just got it while we are at college together. There is jsut something about how they look aside from anything else. They don't look boring by any degree. They don't really look outlandish either. You will get compliments on them, but can anyone really imagine being stood there with a 20th silo and hearing "man that is one ugly looking guitar!"? I'd have to say not!

I dunno, for it's time it was a step forward, and it's not in the top 100 bad guitars I've seen

not the nicest looking but still better than the Stingray 6 string or an F100 or other early G&L.

You could see where Leo was going - the old MM Sabres were pretty much the "missing link" between a Strat and a G&L F-100.
I found it interesting that the 4+2 headstock was designed by Forrest White but never put into production until Dudley incorprated his version (or maybe update) into the EBMM Silo and Steve Morse guitars, but Leo went ahead with using the 3+1 headstock on the basses.
There used to be a few guys who hung out on the G&L forum who had info on the old Leo-era Music Mans; for more history you could check over there.

Oh man.....
I remember back in 1982. I had a friend, a drummer, who wanted me to play in a Country band. I hated Country and wanted to stick with Prog Rock and Fusion. He showed me some stuff with the band Alabama. That was back in their hayday. I was not impressed. Those are the guitars they used.
Then I was introduced to Albert Lee.......
