I dont know if any of you have read it, but I found it kind of funny and interesting. Some people just need to get their facts straightened out before they start makin a rave review or what not. I'm really glad that he liked the guitar and gave it a good review, but some of those facts are wrong, and people might be missled. ESPECIALLY about the necls of EBMM guitars. That is one of the major things that makes the Balls so freakin great and there is a variety. And since when does the 20th Silo have "active circuitry" :p ?

"The neck is probably the exact same one, and the fact that the action is perfect shows that a real player had something to do with it, not someone trying to make one-off guitars without caring about playability."

I am also glad that he liked it but this statement leads me to believe he does not have his facts straigt. I am also of the opinions that EBMM's necks are one of their best attributes.

Can you get a 20th w/ piezo? Do they require a battery? If so, maybe that's what the review thought was the 'active circuitry'.

You mean could you get a 20th with Piezo, the answer is YES. but I wouldn't hold my breathe of places stocking piezo versions.

It's great that this guy liked the guitar, but I found the review itself to be a bit annoying.

Almost the entire first paragraph is about how much this guy has hated EB guitars; I understand that he begins this way in order to make a contrast, but I have trouble taking much stock in a "review" from someone who has disliked EB guitars for "my entire career as a player" based on playing one axis, one time.

I pretty much skimmed over the rest, until the end where he says "Everything is fantastic. My ideal guitar, all the way." Now, that's terrific, and speaks well of EBMM, but he just got done saying that he liked the Charvel better for some undetermined magical reason...so, is it his "ideal guitar" or not? Would he have felt this same "undescribable [sic] feeling that just made me want to play" if the name "Charvel" wasn't attached to the guitar? maybe yes, maybe no.

And, well, let's face it...how can you possibly beat that top?

exactly who is this guy? couldnt find his name anywhere. very odd review, why would you think one model from one guitar brand is the same as all their other guitars? which company has one neck for all their guitars?? NONE! so why would EB be different?

strikes me as not the sharpest tool in the shed this guy

I posted a comment - I wonder how long it will stay up before he deletes it? :D
This review is worthless - the reviewer is an inarticulate troglodyte and his opinions are valueless and misinformed. The 20th Anniversary Silhouette does not have the same neck profile as the Petrucci Sig. - in fact, the necks are tangibly and undeniably different. The 20th Anniversary Silhouette does not have active electronics - no 9-volt battery would ever be required. And lastly, Ernie Ball Music Man guitars are revered for their incomparable necks - check any decent guitar forum (The Gear Page, Birds & Moons, FDP) and you’ll find dozens of proponents of the Music Man gun stock oil & wax neck finishing, and every print publication for guitarists (including Guitar Player, Guitarist, Total Guitar, Guitar) that has reviewed the Axis has praised it’s neck. In fact, the Axis neck is a digitally carved copy of the neck from Eddie Van Halen’s # 1 favorite frankenstrat, developed when EVH had his signature guitar with EBMM, and this writer’s suggestion that he played an Axis that had an “unfinished” neck where “they forgot to round out the back” demonstrates an ignorance so monumental that it’s frightening. His assertion that it is somehow a substandard neck simply illustrates his complete lack of appreciation for a contemporary classic design that has found favor with a huge number of amature and professional musicians throughout the world.

Clueless reviewers and critics are one of the banes of the "Web" and a personal bug-bear...

I was on the Internet before the Web, and I remember when it was made up almost exclusively of occasionally irrascible, frequently opinionated and nearly always intelligent persons, virtually all of whom had an academic, professional or hobbiest interest in computers and technology. Opinions were rampant then as well, but at least they tended to be well thought out and articulate, not the thoughtless, self-satisfied gibberish that passes itself off as a balanced and intelligent review on today's Internet. There is a reason that print media employ Editors.

Wow....Jimi making me look like father theresa! Hard to do.

I think that we are seeing the future in this Digg/wiki/everyone is an expert era. The decline and fall of the western civilization will because our grandkids will have learned all of this bad information from the freedom of the user generated content era.

I could take this guy to task, could tell him the horns are dictated by the balance points.... mention geometry...but really he liked the guitar and his work is pulitzer compared to guys who get paid to blow smoke rings in the guitar mags.

Well, you can ask Pete DuBaldo if he still has one.

I could care less.

I won't bother reading it.

The J.

You cared enough to post on it, you cared enough to use your entire vocabulary, you cared enough to brag about it here, you cared enough to read this thread again, and you cared enough to attempt satire when quoting me.

I believe, stealing your attempt at an insult, you are now guilty of troglodytery.

TheGuitarist,

It is unfair to say that JimiD "practically works for Ernie Ball" simply because he is a moderator here.

Indeed the most active of the moderators here are NOT employed by Ernie Ball or Music Man (bovinehost, Jimi_D, phattduck, Rod Trussbroken). They earned their moderator status by contributing to the forum as valued members.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions, and your blogging. We are not quite a "militant" following here, but we are rabid MM fans. Stick around for a while and you'll discover why. :)

I know exactly why. The Silhouette and Axis Super Sport are some of the best guitars i've ever played, one of my good friends owns an MM Stingray HH, one of the best sounding basses i've ever heard, and the one anomaly (which was so impassionately pointed out) clouded my opinion of Ernie Ball for a very long time. It seems that some people made a big deal out of that and my gut opinion of the feel of an Ernie ball. It's fine; can't please all the people all the time.

And hell, your criticism of my blog tripled the readers in 3 hours.

The G.
