Been considering the maple board on my black 3eq stingray and wondering if what I actually would prefer is a rosewood neck -

i guess it's okay to swap necks, as the neck pocket is standard size etc??

But where might I get an authentic replacement? Do Music Man help out any?

You won't get a replacement from Music Man, your best bet is to find someone to trade with, or wait for one to pop up on eBay. Even then it is not certain it will be a perfect fit, as some people on the forum have had experience with.

Buy one with a maple fretboard and compare the two. That's what I did. I like them both.

I found a deal on two used ones and have $1150 invested in my two stingrays. My wife is an accountant by the way. I usually don't ask her when buying basses though.

Possible someone near you has one to try? That would let you know how it is prior to spending money on a neck you may never find.

Most people will tell you that the sonic differences are negligible when playing live, and to get whichever you like the look and feel of. I personally prefer rosewood because my brain thinks that it is warmer. I can't wait until my BFR rosewood gets here.

I agree...get what makes you happy and don't worry too much about the sound differences between maple and rosewood.

Strings make a way bigger difference to the sound...
