Is the DD to be gigged with or put in a glass case?

I'm having a dilemma. Should my DD SR5 HS be gigged with, or kept pristine sitting at home?

It's been my main practice bass, and I'm really having fun with it. I played it for a set on a gig a couple weeks ago and would like to play it more. But there's the ding factor. Hell, at the last gig, our drummer tipped over my ASAT. Crash. Thankfully, only a small scuff from the cement in an inconspicuous place, but if that'd been the Dargie! Now if I were Ritchie I'd have 3 DDs to gig with and 3 to put in a glass case.

Course it would give me a reason to get another SR5.

Go for it.
I've gigged my 20th Stingray lots of times, (although I'd re-think that nighttime beach gig)
I've gigged the Buttercream Sterling HS, which is at least as rare as a DD SR5 HS. My thinking on that is if there were only a handful made, pristine condition is less important for resale.
Plus, It's a great bass that callenges me and makes me play better. However, I'd leave them both at home for an outdoor gig, rowdy bar scene or Frat / Local drunkard party.

I'm in a similar situation. My DD SR4 HS already has a small ding on the neck and a weird scratch on the body that came out of nowhere. You'd think it'd be easier to take it out after the first ding or so, but I'm too scared about any more dings. But it sounds so damn good! sgbnlksfbsalkgs

Dunno what the answer is. But, judging by the used prices of SR5's in the US, pick up a beat up SR5 and gig with that. If your drummer is clumsy, teach him a lesson and use the SR5 headstock to hit his cymbals. He will soon learn to respect other's equipment.

I think you have already made up your mind! Keep the DD for home practice and those special gigs. Not for gig practics. (wow! he's bringin the DD out for tonight's gig!)


But, seriously, if I had a Luke DD, and oh yes, one day I hope I will, then it would be my main axe baby yeah! Your balls are meant to be played with.

My Dargie (only 5H Bongo in the US, and one of only two built according to original tally) has become my main gigging bass.

If you want to play it out, play it out. Period.
