Today I chipped my Mystic Dream finish on my JP7.
I was wondering if the paint could be fixed on this? It's such a unique finish and it seems like it would be a difficult task. It's a medium size chip and from the looks of it the wood was not damaged.
Thanks

from what I know about the paint used (the 'chameleon' colours) to get it to match it will need a full respray, I know on a car (with the same paint) if one panel is damaged it is a pain to get matched up to the rest of the car again. From what I've been told it has to do with the way the paint is actually applied.. but not 100% sure.
Where is the chip? front or back?

Girlfriend's nail varnish in the closest colour you can find is my usual cheap fix. I think if you need it perfect again a ful respray by EBMM is your only option.....not cheap I'd guess

being an car buff (having recently restored one) i can tell you, there is no way to repair the chip without the applied paint not matching the original spray.

As some have said, it's actually not how the paint is applied the first time. But the environment and chemical makeup when the paint is sprayed. The temperature, humidity, and even if there is a slight movement in the air can affect how paint is applied to any surface. Reproducing the original operating conditions is extremely difficult (unless you have a dedicated spray booth as seen in most body/paint shops) But then you have the almost impossible task of re-creating the chemical makeup of the paint used originally. I know there is a degree of error because the human eye can only distinguish between two colors after a certain percentage of change. But to get the chemical makeup even to that accuracy would require a computer controlled mixture based off of a forensic analysis of the original makeup. And at that point, it would be easier to just respray the entire guitar.

Contact CS and see what they say. But i suggest you allow the chip to stay, my Candy red JP6 has chips and scratches on it and i still find it beautiful because they all have a story behind it.

You could just paint your whole JP6 white like one of us did. :D

What a sin!! ;)

When I renovated my JP6 Mystic Dream, it had been used quite a bit.To touch in some dings I sprayed black paint into the can's lid. Let it evaporate over a few minutes then applied the black paint into the ding. I then used 800 grit w & Dry going down to 2000 grit. Then I used some finer micro mesh then polished it up using a very very mild rubbing compound (guitar scratch remover). The results were very good.

Take a look at the link in my sig to my JP 6 renovation.

well who cares about a bimbo with an empty head :p

This guitar has enough charisma of its own so you won't even notice the ding :p
