The gig bag, carry-on thing was so remote a possibility that I just lobbed a jersey and some strategically placed pants & socks in the case as padding and checked the whole thing in. It made the 14hr trip from San Fran to Sydney, then another few hours and two more planes to Brisbane and Townsville just fine. The case lost some stickers, but they were only placed there to artificially age it, along with the light dusting talcum powder.
