Hey,
Might be a stupid question (I did do a search first but didnt see anything)....but is there anything to see in San Luis Obispo, or is the EB factory just a building in some industrial area?
Going to Cali again in April and will detour from the I5 to have a look if there is a large factory shop or anything like that there.

I've got a weekend house up there and there is alot of good stuff:

Mo's has really good barbeque.

Hearst Castle is relatively close.

The State Park up near Los Osos is really cool.

And there is that big rock in Morro Bay...

It's just a building in an industrial area. :D

I have to concur, the Firestone was most excellent.

I thought SLO was a pretty little college town and I would love to go back. The factory is a cross between a saw mill and NASA, without a doubt the cleanest place I've ever seen wood worked.

I truly enjoyed my visit to SLO, but I was only there for the open house. So for all I know BP is the mayor and Jon is the well armed sherriff... :D

Its about 1.5 to 2 hours off the 5, no EB factory store, and it is just an unassuming building in a industrial area (the magic happens inside :D ). San Luis Obispo and its surrounding coastal communities are worth the stop. The only good thing about I5 is it is efficient in getting you through California. I would still be living there in SLO if the cost of housing wasn't so out of sight.

Yeah, thats right about the I5. Its the most boring drive ever. 99 is slightly more interesting, but 2 lanes...sucks. The best thing about the drive is that I can stop for Jack in the Box....love that fat filled american fast food.

Thanks for the input guys!

No factory tours if that's what you're wondering about. They set that aside for openhouse events.
SLO...not much of anything other than shopping, just a quiet place. I used to go to Avila beach, then down the road at Pismo dunes was always great for 4-wheeling in the sand. If that's what a detour is worth to ya.

In fact right now I'm down here on the central coast visiting the folks, so I'm only about 35 miles away.

I have to concur on the Firestone Grille. Awesome!

Also, there's some good wine country nearby and of course the Hearst Castle isn't that far away either.

Some of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen. I would have loved to have had a week to just roam around Paso Robles and the other areas near there. Of course, I would probably need a new liver if I spent too much time there.

I'm sure there are some interesting areas to explore south of SLO too.

Downtown SLO is fun. Something for everone. Lot's of shops, restaurants, and bars. SLO tries to keep all the businesses downtown. So downtown is kind of like a big outdoor mall during the day. At night all the bars go off. I'm a Bull's Tavern man myself. Jukebox and cheap stiff drinks. Downtown Brew and Frog and Peach have shows almost every night. Marti's and McCarthy's are fun too. McCarthy's is the #1 Jameson's account in both Califonia and the US. Amazing for a little hole in the wall Irish pub.

Went downtown yesterday with Dargin to Marti's Bar & Grill. 80 degrees, cold cocktails, mmmmm. My neck is sore from constantly checking out all the scantily clad Poly Dollies roaming around. At Marti's they have a high table that you sit on bar stools. We sat at a low table on chairs. Needless to say our eyes were level with the view a poor drunken coed was giving us under her sundress from under the table. This was at 2 in the afternoon. I love Spring in SLO :D

Lot's of Wineries in SLO county. They have a tasting room downtown now that has all the local stuff. Another wine tasting business just recently opened up too. For the life of me I can't recall where I saw it. That probably means I was drunk at the time. Since the movie Sideways came out they now have Sideways wine tasting tours.

Ten minutes south you also have Pismo Beach and Avila Beach. I prefer Avila. Never foggy and the bar is closer to the beach than in Pismo.

To the North up Highway 1 you have Morro Bay, Cambria and Hearst Castle.

SLO Chamber of Commerce tourist site probably has detailed info

It's 85 degrees right now, I'm sitting on my hi tech beach chair in front of my house, which is on the corner of a busy street. I'm sucking down some cold ones, my dog is chasing his tail, my son's are challenging each other to skate board tricks, I witnessed a honda civic get hit by the local transit bus (no one was injured) all those scantilly clad Cal Poly girls that Chewie mentioned, are jogging or strolling by my house every few minutes!
Heck, what else is there?......need another cold one!!

It's hotter than that over the hill....The only women I have seen today are the tweaker next door, and my ex wife and her new b/f when I went to the grocery store. I should be hangin with Albert and Joker.
